LENGTH OF STAY
These six-day trips begin with guests arriving into Dillingham, Alaska on Saturday afternoon, and returning to Dillingham the following Friday in the early afternoon.

THE FISHING
The Wood-Tikchik State Park - home to Reel Wilderness Adventures - consists of a chain of large lakes that are interconnected by rivers. The lakes and rivers in this region are quite literally teaming with fish. The river nearest to R.W.A.'s camp, the Agulukpak, is home to one of the highest concentrations of rainbow trout in Alaska and was voted as one of the "Top Ten Rainbow Trout Rivers" in the nation. This river is hands-down one of the finest rivers in the state of Alaska for consistently catching large rainbow trout on dry flies.

 

To ensure great fishing and large amounts of fresh, unfished water, R.W.A. limits weekly group size to eight anglers or less to insure that you receive the personalized attention and uncrowded feeling so vital for a fulfilling Alaska wilderness fly fishing adventure. Of course singles and couples are welcome. This small group size also allows R,W,A, to customize the trip to your specific wants and needs. If you want to fish hard - longer days than average, for example, then that's what you'll do. Would you like to go out after dinner to check out the evening action? No problem at all. The guides will take you!

 

Typically, the season at R.W.A. starts in late June, when the action in the area is highlighted by the out-migration of salmon smolt. Smolt are two-year-old salmon that are migrating to the sea. Big, hungry Arctic Char literally line up by the hundreds at the outlets of the rivers and lakes waiting for the smolt to arrive. The fishing can be fast and furious, and large, hungry Char chasing schools of salmon smolt is a sight to see. This is some wild action that lasts into the first part of July. Fishing for big rainbows is also very good at this time, with effective patterns including streamers, leeches, nymphs and - depending upon water temperature - dry flies. Late June also sees the start of the Sockeye salmon run. The Sockeye start arriving by late June in the hundreds of thousands and can be caught through the rest of the season into September. Sockeye are a terrific game fish that run from 6 to 14 pounds and are very strong.

 

July sees the start of some of the best dry fly action in the state of Alaska. This exceptional dry fly fishing starts the last week of June and continues through the entire month of July and into the first couple of weeks of August. One of R.W.A.'s specialties is catching big 'bows on dry flies. Watching a rainbow as long as your arm rise to a dry fly is something that all fly fishers should experience.

 

By mid-August the salmon have started spawning by the tens of thousands, and the rainbows, Char and grayling are gorging on salmon eggs. FAT rainbows and BIG hungry Char are caught on egg patterns and beads from mid-August through September. Egg patterns and flesh flies are the name of the game in late August and September. The largest fish of the season will be caught from mid-August through September. This is some truly great fly fishing.

 

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Reel Wilderness Adventures' site at Iris Point is ideally located to take advantage of the awesome fishing in the entire lake system. Jet-powered riverboats are used to travel over the miles and miles of this vast lake and river system that make up this beautiful wilderness park. Anglers are encouraged to bring all of their own gear and equipment, and Yellow Dog will provide detailed packing lists and equipment lists for your trip.

THE LODGING
Reel Wilderness Adventures' main camp, located at Iris Point in Wood-Tikchik State Park, is very comfortable with top quality equipment including 8' x 10' Weatherport tents set on carpeted platforms. Each Weatherport tent comfortably accommodates two guests and is heated and has lighting for reading in the evening. The camp provides warm, clean sleeping bags, blankets and pillows atop large padded cots for a comfortable nights sleep. The shower house is large and roomy with an on-demand water heater for all the hot water you need for a hot shower after a day of great fishing. The bathroom facilities have flush toilets.

All of your meals are included and will be prepared by R.W.A.'s professional staff chef. Wake up after a warm, comfortable nights sleep to a beautiful Alaska summer morning, a fresh-brewed cup of coffee and a hearty family style breakfast ready and waiting. Lunches are typically taken on the water each day, and dinner each night is both hearty and delicious. If you have a particular meal or dish you would like to request, no problem. The staff chef will be happy to make it happen.
Meals are family style affairs consisting of steak, chicken, fish, pasta, ribs, salads, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, juice, coffee, etc. We promise that you won't go hungry during your stay with Reel Wilderness Adventures.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Meet-and-greet upon arrival at Dillingham Airport, transfer from Dillingham to the lodge via float plane, all meals in camp, six full days of guided fishing, and comfortable and roomy heated accommodations that include warm clean sleeping bags and blanket on comfortable padded cots with pillows. Amenities include hot showers, flush toilets and more to ensure you have a comfortable stay in the wilderness.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED
Alcoholic beverages (BYO!), Alaskan state fishing license, and gratuities for guides and camp staff.

 

DEPOSIT INFORMATION
A 50% deposit (per angler) of the total package cost paid to Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures (YDFA) within 10 days of booking to secure the reservation. Guides and dates cannot be held without a deposit. YDFA reserves the right to charge a handling fee of $100 per person for date changes after the initial reservation has been made. Full payment is due 90 days prior to departure.

HOW TO GET THERE
Your trip starts upon arrival in Dillingham, Alaska. Several major airlines serve Alaska from the lower 48 with connections from Anchorage. It is recommended that guests overnight in Anchorage the day before your trip begins and connect to Dillingham the following morning. Connections can be made through Alaska Airlines or Pen Air. Arrival time into Dillingham should be before 2:00 PM.

Once you arrive at the Dillingham airport, you will be met and transported via chartered floatplane to Reel Wilderness' campsite at Iris Point in the beautiful Wood-Tikchik State Park. The Iris Point operation site is in an absolutely beautiful spot just minutes away from world class fly fishing.

 

Your six-day trip begins with your arrival into Dillingham, Alaska on Saturday afternoon. You will be returning to Dillingham, at the end of your stay, the following Friday in the early afternoon. You will be flown into camp from Dillingham by chartered floatplane. The chartered floatplane service will meet you upon your arrival at the Dillingham airport and bring you into camp around 3:00 PM or later on Saturday. The floatplane will pick you up at camp around 1:00 PM on the following Friday for your return to Dillingham at the end of your trip.

The Agulukpak River is a throwback in time. Its size, flow, and topography are similar to that of the Madison in Montana.
