Trips of any length are available, and the convenience of the Bahamas makes Andros Island Bonefish Club the perfect getaway for a week-long fishing trip or a quick weekend escape.
SEASON
The Bang Bang Club offers year-round fishing and guest accommodations. November through mid-July is peak season for fishing in Andros, when the weather and water temperatures are ideal.
• November – January: A wide variety of fish species can be caught in the fall and winter months. Best months for trophy bonefish in the bights and both coasts! Lots of big barracuda on the flats as well and the resident tarpon on the West Side are around during the right weather.
• February – April: Peak bonefish season for numbers of bonefish on the flats, as well as a great time for resident tarpon and baracuda.
• May – July: Bonefish, tarpon, and barracuda are plentiful. Winds are calmer and afternoon rain showers are possible. Ideal months for chasing migratory larger tarpon on the famous West Side.
• August – October: Morning fishing is best for bonefish. Great months for stalking barracuda, sharks, and snapper. Calm winds, with the exception of the random Caribbean storm. Tarpon are also available. This is also typically hurricane season.
THE FISHING
Location, location, location. We have all heard that a million times! We can honestly say that the Bang Bang Club has the finest fishing location of any destination on Andros Island. It is smack dab in the middle of Andros Island’s North Bight, equidistant from the east and west coasts. This means you have unlimited options for fishing either coast, all three bights, inland lagoons and lakes, and flats that are too far for other lodges to access during a normal day of fishing. Being only 25 minutes from the west side means easy access to this legendary fishery and - unlike other lodges - there are no gas surcharges at the Bang Bang. Since the tides are opposite on the east and west coasts of Andros, the guides are able to fish favorable tides all day long with minimal running in the boats.
Charlie Smith and a number of his sons (including Benry and Andy Smith) are the head guides at the lodge. They also work with and utilize some of the island’s top independent guides, including Ricardo Mackey, Dennis Leadon, Eddie Rolle, Frankie Neymour, Carlton Mackey, Danny Newbold, Nick Leadon, Mark Bastian, Steve Smith, and Jacob Thompson. Typical fishing days run 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, which is about average for Andros. Keep in mind, however, that with less running in the boat the fishing day is actually longer and more productive! The targeted species are bonefish averaging 2 to 5 pounds with good numbers of shots at trophy bones in the 8 to 10 pound range. The guides will customize your fishing days to your expectations, meaning that you can target smaller, more numerous schoolies or hunt for larger bonefish in deeper water. For the die-hard, there is plenty of wading opportunities around the Club, meaning you can continue your fishing after the guide day is over. The Club’s home flats are what we would call "big bone flats" as they are steeper and adjacent to the deep waters of the North Bight. The bottom is very soft all around the lodge so you must walk the shoreline while scanning for fish. Numerous double digit fish have been caught directly in front of the lodge, and there are mosaic tile replicas in the fly tying den of a few monsters caught from the dock. Tarpon, permit, and barracuda can also be targeted and are all resident to the area. Again, being so close to Andros’ West Side allows for easy quick access to the resident and migratory tarpon flats of Spanish Wells, Miller Creek, and Wide Opening.
BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Anglers fish from 16-foot Dolphin Super Skiffs complete with poling platforms, 75-140HP Yamaha outboards, and spacious casting decks. These boats are roomy, fast and comfortable.
THE LODGING
Accommodations are in renovated, comfortable, air-conditioned cottages. Each room features a private bath, two full-sized beds, ceiling fans, and plenty of room for fishing tackle and personal belongings. All the cottages have screened windows and doors that can be opened to take advantage of the cool breezes off the North Bight. Daily housekeeping is provided. It is important that if you need something at the Bang Bang Club to ask for it. Often the generator is off and the water pump is not powered making it difficult to shower. So, ask for it to be turned on and you will have water pressure and hot water. Remember this is a rustic remote location and everyday ammenities that you are used to in the United States take enormous amounts of power and labor to produce in the backcountry, so be prepared for anything and adjust to "island time." Once you accept this you will enjoy the peaceful surroundings and appreciate what Charlie and Eddie Smith have created. This is not a posh resort but rather a down-to-earth bonefish camp...with great fishing, great people, good food, a/c, and comfy beds.
The bar and tying den is where historical stories are told, flies tied, and guests are encouraged to bring their tying equipment for educational group tying. The main dining facility is adjacent to the pool and main courtyard and is well-screened. There is a sun porch off the dining room that is used as an additional social room. An outdoor barbeque is used for Bahamian BBQs. There is a pool in between the dining building and tying den/bar cottage. The lodge's staff is friendly and will assist you with any special requests.

TESTIMONIALS
"We certainly had a wonderful time at the Bang Bang Club this past week. The weather was great and the fishing for the bones was excellent. We’re looking forward to another visit sometime down the road."

"In April 2007, I had the good fortune to spend four days and five nights at the historic Bang Bang Club on Andros Island with Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures Bahamas Program Director Ian Davis. One word captures the trip: classic. What an experience to be able to catch bonefish by day with Charlie Smith, then to sit in the evening around his tying table and soak up history from the legend himself. Thank you for making all of the logistics trouble-free, and for providing a fishing experience that was precisely as advertised."

"For the past four years in an attempt to thaw out from the Montana winters, I’ve made it a point to go some place warm on a saltwater fly fishing adventure. This year as late winter faded into early spring it didn’t look like it was going to happen. I had been discussing where to go with my friend from Yellow Dog Fly Fishing adventures, Ian Davis. From our conversations it became apparent that Ian has an extensive background and first-hand knowledge of many destinations in the Caribbean. We discussed different destinations that targeted specific fish (large tarpon) or a combination of fish (permit and bones), but I just couldn’t make a decision. Then one day in early April he called about a trip he was putting together to Andros Island in the Bahamas. The emphasis would be large bonefish but there would also be opportunity for tarpon and permit. We would be staying at the Bang Bang Club which is owned and operated by Charlie Smith, as in THE Charlie Smith - the originator of the Crazy Charlie. Sign me up, I told my buddy Ian. Now, I had never booked a trip with Yellow Dog, and I have to say that I was incredibly impressed with the pre-trip information packets and emails that Ian sent me. The Bang Bang is located on a small cay in the heart of the fishing grounds, so there is no long run out in the morning or slog back in the afternoon. We literally started fishing as Charlie polled us away from the dock that first morning. This part of the world is truly a flats fishing paradise. Miles of drop dead gorgeous flats (you couldn’t fish all of them in 10 lifetimes!) and on top of that, no other boats around. We were after big bones and big bones are what we got! We certainly caught smaller bones when they’d out raced the larger fish to the fly. But on average four and five pounders made up a majority of the daily bag and a couple of eight pounders during the week took bragging rights during cocktail hours with the boys back at the lodge. The accommodations at the lodge are more than adequate. The food is local cuisine and is delectable. Evenings where fun-filled affairs with story telling, cigar smoking, and singing as Charlie played his banjo. I’m going back!"
