With the recent announcements from the Trump Administration regarding potential changes to U.S foreign policy towards Cuba, our team at Yellow Dog has been closely tracking the situation and fielding calls. Bottom line: trips booked through Yellow Dog to Cuba, are still 100% in compliance with all current regulations associated with Americans traveling to the country and the announcements have no effect on your already booked trip.
Rest assured your trip with Yellow Dog is legal and there is nothing to worry about!
In National Security Advisor John Bolton’s speech on April 17th, 2019, no deviations from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions were officially put in place, or even announced, for the immediate future. Proposed regulations and new policies could eventually affect the amount of money Cuban-Americans can send to the island and possibly affect the 12 permitted categories of non-family travel currently allowed to Cuba. In addition, potentially opening up the doors for lawsuits and enabling the Helms-Burton Titles III and IV (allowing suits against European and Canadian businesses that use expropriated American and Cuban-American property).
This is not the first time the Trump Administration has muddied the waters related to Cuba travel. Yellow Dog is well-versed in tracking and chasing down details as it relates to ensuring our anglers are in full compliance.
Should a follow-up announcement come to fruition that the potential for changes to any of the current 12 legal (OFAC) categories of travel to Cuba, Yellow Dog will be informed immediately. If the past change in travel regulations are any indication of how this administration would handle the related stipulations, then a trip that has been booked and for which a booking agent such as Yellow Dog has received a deposit for, the trip would essentially be grandfathered into current regulations.
