The fifth annual Punta Allen Super Slam Tournament is right around the corner, taking place May 11-16, 2020. This year, join Yellow Dog’s Ian Davis and Thomas and Thomas Fine Fly Rod Co. owner Neville Orsmond at Grand Slam Fishing Lodge for a great week of fishing and giving back to the Punta Allen community through the support of the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Fund.
If you want to join-in on the fun AND help a great cause, there are two team openings. Each team has two anglers per team – sharing a room and boat. Dates are May 11 – 16, 2020, which is prime season at Grand Slam Lodge.
Previous tournaments have raised money for important projects like remodeling the elementary school bathrooms, constructing grandstands around the town’s soccer field, and erecting a palapa for the school children to have lunch in the shade and out of the rain. Tournament proceeds covered medical costs for local kids, and with the help of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation, it was possible to purchase a braille typing machine for a local girl who is blind. The tournament grows each year, and each year we’re so humbled to see the fly fishing community give back to such a wonderful place.
Through your support, we’ve been able to plan the construction of a new teachers’ dormitory. Without running water, beds, adequate ventilation, consistent power, and cooking amenities, the elementary school has trouble retaining teachers. A new dormitory will allow the school to secure quality teachers and ensure bright academic futures for Punta Allen’s children. With construction planned to begin by the end of February, we couldn’t be more excited about the school. But the bottom line is that none of these projects would be possible if not for the incredible generosity of individual people. We also want to thank all the anglers, sponsors and individuals that make the tournament possible.
But most importantly, we cannot thank the entire community of Punta Allen enough for always welcoming us with open arms and for being diligent stewards of such a special fishery. Thank You.
