Big news out of the Indian Ocean!  We’ve just received word that beginning this fall our fishing operation on St. Brandon’s Atoll in the Indian Ocean will be transitioning from a live-aboard mothership operation to a full-fledged land-based operation.

For the 2015 season, all guests to St. Brandon’s will be will transported to the Atoll on a high-speed vessel called the Patrol One, a 73-foot, two-deck wave piercer trimaran designed to handle rough seas at high speed. A crossing to St Brandon’s on this vessel takes between 14 and 16 hours (at least 10 hours less than the previously used MY Gryphon) and only about 12 hours on the way back. It offers a large external cockpit, an adjacent galley, a dinette and a bridge area capable of seating the skipper and seven passengers in aircraft style one plus one seating arrangement. Sleeping accommodation for eight persons will also be provided in four cabins (8 single beds).

Once at St Brandon’s, guest will be accommodated in a four bedroom guesthouse on Raphael Island in the fishing-rich northern part of the atoll. The operators are telling us that while the guesthouse won’t be luxurious, it will be simple, clean and comfortable. There will be two guests per room for the first season there will be two fully functioning bathrooms with showers, toilets and hot running water. In addition to this there will be two adjoining outside showers. Meals will include a mix of creole and international dishes. Lunch will generally be enjoyed out on the flats, unless guests request a mid-day return to the guesthouse. As far as the rate is concerned, prices for the coming 2015/2016 season will be reduced from Euro 7100 per person (from Mauritius) to USD $7,500.00 per person!
