EXPLORING THE ALEUTIANS AT SANDY RIVER LODGE
Yellow Dog’s Tom Melvin recently returned from an exploratory trip to the Aleutian Peninsula of Alaska; specifically, the Sandy River Lodge. For anglers looking for one of the most remote and pristine settings in Alaska targeting not only steelhead, but also king salmon, silvers, rainbow trout and char, this is definitely an option worth exploring!
This modest wilderness lodge, located 600 miles southwest of Anchorage on the end of the Alaska’s Aleutian Peninsula, provides comfortable riverside accommodations and world-class fly fishing in one of the more remote areas of the state. It would be difficult to find a river more suited to swinging flies for king salmon and fresh steelhead than the Sandy. This fishery offers what is arguably the best – and most consistent – king salmon and steelhead opportunities in the world, all set in a remote, uncrowded and untouched region of the Alaskan peninsula. Each day, anglers can expect to have multiple shots at kings and steelhead fresh from the Bering Sea, the ocean is so close to the lodge, allowing for many dime-bright fish, still holding sea lice and ripping line off reels like only ocean species can. The Sandy is an ideal location to accommodate anglers of all skill levels, whether it’s your first time swinging a two-handed rod or you are a seasoned veteran at soaking flies. Their insanely talented and experienced guides are also very knowledgeable and great instructors, making this a perfect location for all anglers.
For more information, check out the Yellow Dog Sandy River Lodge page (link below) or contact Tom Melvin at the Bozeman offices to learn more. With this being a very small, intimate program and only in operation for a few weeks of the season, spots are VERY limited, so call today to book your trip to one of the best salmon and steelhead programs in Alaska!
