In the South Pacific lies the world’s largest coral atoll, Christmas Island. The expanse of shallow water flats offers incredible fly fishing opportunities for bonefish, giant and golden trevally, milkfish, triggerfish and a variety of other saltwater species.
This may be some of the best flats wading in the entire world!
Guests stay in cabins each accommodating two anglers. Every cabin has air conditioning, hot showers, and comfy beds. And after a long day of fishing guests will come back to the lodge for refreshments and a hearty meal.
Typically, the following dates are full so jump on this rare opportunity while they’re still open. Openings in the winter and spring months are great for escaping the cold!
January 9 – 16 6 Spots
January 16 – 23 7 Spots
January 30 – February 6 2 Spots
February 13 – 20 4 Spots
February 27 – March 6 6 spots
April 17 – 24 14 Spaces
Christmas Island is definitely a fisherman’s destination with very limited non-angling activities available. However, for the avid diver the coral reefs that make up the atoll are virtually untouched, and divers can experience all the rich marine life and color that the underwater world offers. It should be noted that anyone wanting to dive must be a member of DAN (Divers Alert Network) and must be diving certified. Furthermore, a Global Rescue policy is required.
If Christmas Island has been on your bucket list or you’re thinking about making a return trip, be sure to contact camille [at] yellowdogflyfishing [dot] com (Camille Egdorf) for more information.
