Since 1950, Kulik Lodge has provided anglers with the finest Alaskan freshwater sportfishing opportunities available. The Lodge is situated on the banks of the Kulik River itself – one of the top trout rivers in the world. It is the only operation located on the river, which means that the "home waters" are the same waters that many of the area's other high-end lodges fly in and out of each day! With Kulik's fishing program, you can choose daily fly-outs, fish a long day on the home waters, or create your own schedule that allows you to enjoy the comfortable accommodations, excellent amenities, and untouched wilderness that surrounds you. With numerous aircraft, experienced pilots, professional guides, and access to the finest waters and most famous rivers in Bristol Bay, Kulik provides fishing that is out of this world.

Kulik is a part of the original “Angler’s Paradise” collection of lodges – the first fly-out sportfishing lodges in all of Alaska. The historical Main Lodge at Kulik, originally built in the late 1950s, is constructed of local native spruce. It boasts a large common room with a stone fireplace, surrounding couches for lounging and relaxing, a main dining area, and a full complimentary bar stocked with cocktails, wine and beer. There is also a small store that is well-stocked with fishing equipment, flies, all terminal tackle, Kulik Lodge clothing and logo items, and other basic essentials. Individual and free-standing guest cabins all face Nonvianuk Lake and are equipped with large space heaters, showers, private bathrooms, and a wader hanging/drying area. There are both two and four-person cabins available.
Food and Beverages
The meals at Kulik are impressive and the chefs and kitchen staff take great pride in the menu and the quality of meals served. Breakfasts are cooked-to-order each morning, and lunches are always packed for each guided day on the water. Dinners include everything from fresh seafood to thick steaks, with a huge variety of side dishes, salads and deserts. One thing that we like about the dinners at Kulik is that the guides eat in the dining room with the guests, meaning that you can discuss the days fishing and the plans for tomorrow over dinner each night.
Typical Length of Stay
A standard stay at Kulik is a seven (7) nights / seven (7) fishing days package, although there are four (4) nights and three (3) nights packages available. Transfer days at Kulik are Saturdays and Tuesdays, except in June and September, when you can arrive any day of the week. Please contact Yellow Dog for details.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Kulik Lodge has a fantastic sister lodge located on the nearby Brooks River, meaning that day trips for what may be the best bear-viewing in the region are easily arranged. The world famous bear viewing at Brooks Falls is only a short walk from Katmailand's Brooks Lodge. As many as fifty bears can be viewed fishing along the 1.5 mile-long Brooks River during the peak of the salmon season. Guided sightseeing fly-outs to Brooks Lodge are free of charge June 29 – August 1, 2014. Daily tours to "The Valley of 10,000 Smokes" also depart from Brooks Lodge. The Valley is the sight of one of the most violent eruptions in modern history. Novarupta Volcano exploded in 1912 with blasts of hot winds and gas which spewed hot glowing pumice and ash, destroying all living things and burying more than 40 square miles of lush green valley under ash deposits to depths of 700 feet.
Internet / Communications
Internet access is available at the Lodge. Cell phones will not work during your visit at the Lodge.
By being the first sportfishing lodge in the entire area, Kulik was able to pick the cream-of-the-crop with regard to location. Not only does the Lodge sit on the banks of a river sought after by most other lodges in Alaska, but Kulik is less than 15 minutes flying time away from the true heart of trophy rainbow fishing. With their superb aircraft, experienced Alaskan pilots, and professional guides, Kulik not only ensures your safety but also provides fishing that is out of this world. Enjoy the great fishing near the Lodge, or opt for daily fly-outs that will give you access to other hot spots within a 100 mile radius. This is a great way to take advantage of the large variety of species of fish available throughout southwest Alaska: trophy rainbow trout, Arctic char, Arctic grayling, lake trout, northern pike, and all five species of Pacific salmon. In conjunction with their fly-out options, Kulik has river jet-boats cached at various productive rivers and streams throughout the region. Other daily fishing options include raft float trips and walk/wade trips to remote streams. As an added bonus, the prime location on the Kulik River means that there is evening fishing available after dinner for additional hours on the water (light and weather conditions permitting). If you are a fish-until-you-drop angler, this is a great scenario for your next Alaska trip!
Boats and Equipment
The fleet of Lodge aircraft includes two Cessna 207s equipped with turbine engines, one Cessna 206, one DeHavilland Beaver, and one DeHavilland Otter – all of which are on floats. A Navajo Chieftain on wheels provides round trip transportation from Anchorage directly to the Lodge. It is recommended that anglers bring all of their own gear and equipment, including rods, reels, wading boots, flies and all terminal tackle. If you would rather use the Lodge's gear, however, they do provide all rods, reels, waders and boots. There is a small tackle shop that sells flies and all necessary terminal tackle.
How To Get There
Your trip starts upon arrival into Anchorage's Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC). Several major airlines serve Alaska from the Lower 48 with direct connections to Anchorage (ANC).
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
In Anchorage, you will begin your trip at the Katmai Air offices and hanger near the Anchorage International Airport (ANC). There you will board a wheeled Navajo Chieftain for the flight from Anchorage to Kulik Lodge, a trip of approximately one hour. There are three flights to the lodge each day, and many people opt to arrive into Anchorage the day before and overnight in the city.
Photo identification is required by airlines and to purchase your Alaska Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased at the lodge, or online prior to your trip, by visiting this website: Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

"We flew in to Kulik Lodge on July 25 from Anchorage and flew out on July 29. It was my first experience fly fishing and my first trip to Alaska. The lodge, facilities, and service are all first class. Meals are incredible and you will never be hungry. The guides will teach you how to fly fish and will take care of all of your needs. This is a very remote location and airplane is the only way to get here, but the lodge and rooms have all modern facilities including hot showers, fresh water, electricity. The staff spends the entire season at the lodge and they are all very friendly and helpful. The history of the lodge and Alaska fishing is amazing. You can fish on the Kulik River close to the lodge for great rainbow trout fishing or fly out to various locations for other species of salmon, trout, etc. For a true Alaska fishing adventure, you will not regret choosing Kulik Lodge!"
- Bill F. (St.Paul, MN)
"The trip to Kulik was fabulous and surpassed anything we could have imagined! We have traveled to a lot of fishing lodges, and the customer service at Kulik was the best and far exceeded our previous experiences. The entire staff, the meals, great fishing and scenery were the very best!"
