In 2009, after years of planning and construction, well-known Andros guide, Captain Andy Smith, opened one of the most beautiful, most exclusive small lodge operations in all of the Bahamas. Impressively well-situated on its private island in a very remote location in the “North Bight” of Andros, the Broad Shad Cay consists of two bedrooms, the main dining room and lounge, and a wrap-around deck offering unbeatable views of the surrounding waters. This one-of-a-kind destination is situated equidistant between the east and west coasts of Andros. Since the tides come from both coasts, this location allows anglers to fish optimum tides throughout the day with minimal running time in a boat. Small and exclusive, Broad Shad offers a great location, first-rate accommodations, and the opportunity to learn the subtler aspects of flats fishing from Andy Smith and his expert team of guides. Capacity is limited to four guests per week.

Andy Smith is the son of Charlie Smith (the inspiration for and co-creator of the Crazy Charlie fly) and the brother of Prescott Smith (the owner of Stafford Creek Lodge). His other brother Benry Smith helped build the lodge and is also a fantastic guide on Andros. Andy’s wife Sharon is the lodge manager. This is truly a family run operation.
"Can't begin to thank you enough for all of your help and the fine recommendation on my recent trip to Broad Shad Cay. Andy Smith is an incredible man and the best salt water guide I will ever fish with. His wife Sharon and his sister Isabella were so sweet and saw to every detail. Andy is so much fun to spend the day with and so patient it's miraculous. The lodge as you know is extraordinary. During my week, the weather was a bit cool as were the water temperatures, but as you told me, Andy finds the fish. The tan and white Clouser's in 2 and 4 were the ticket. The bones absolutely mauled them."
