Lodging Details
Swain's Cay offers three levels of accommodations: beachfront cottages, standard garden view cottages, and the Mangrove Villa.  The Villa is a stand-alone three-bedroom house complete with a private deck, living room and small kitchen. The Lodge was constructed in 2010, and all fixtures, furniture, A/C units, and amenities are in top working order. The four-acre property runs from the main road to the beach, with the Mangrove Villa, office and gift shop closest to the road. The cottages sit closer to the beach, and the Main Lodge directly overlooks the beach and the lodge’s home flat. The property is tranquil and private.
Food and Beverages
Meals are always freshly prepared using local vegetables, meats, and seafood. Andros Island is one of the main producers of vegetables in the Bahamas, and all seafood is caught daily by local fisherman. American-style breakfasts are served in the dining room each morning, cooked-to-order.  It is the place to try some of the freshest conch salad in the entire Bahamas. A packed cooler lunch is sent with guides for your day on the water and includes sandwiches, chips, fruit, cookies, sodas, cold beer, and bottled water. Three-course dinners will typically include a fresh salad or homemade soup, a main dish consisting of grouper, snapper, Mahi Mahi, wahoo, chicken, or pork (ribs), and of course, homemade desserts. Pasta dishes are common and vegetarian meals are available upon request. The Lodges keeps plenty of cold Kalik beer and Heineken, a variety of wines, and a stocked well bar with a variety of mixers and sodas. A visit to "Shine's Conch Stand" - only minutes from the Lodge - is a great side trip.
Typical Length of Stay
Trips of any length can be arranged. There are no specific transfer days so you can arrive and depart on any day of the week and stay for any number of days.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Swain's Cay offers a quiet, clean beach with soft, white sand, lounge chairs, and a bar that is open throughout the day. There are no waves on this section of beach, and the water immediately off-shore is shallow and ideal for wading and swimming. Guests can use the four sea kayaks to access deeper water for swimming, bonefishing, and snorkeling. There is also a small island located a short paddle or walk from the beach that is a bird sanctuary. This tiny island is surrounded by flats. Just beyond this island is a perfect white-sand spit that is private. A blue hole is located just offshore of the flats for safe and easy snorkeling. The water is shallow all around this blue hole during lower tides, making it easy to explore. You can also use one of the lodge's bikes to explore the rest of Mangrove Cay via the main road. This area is very safe for running and biking. You can quickly take a taxi into nearby Moxey Town, where you will find a few small retail shops and some nightlife.
Internet / Communications
The Lodge offers Wi-Fi in the office and Main Lodge. Please bring your laptop or PDA to access the internet. Most cell phones with an international plan do work in the area.
General Information
Andros Island is known as the "Bonefish Capital of the World, " and the "Bights" of the island collectively offer one of the most expansive flats systems in the world. Bights are natural channels that bisect islands, each featuring hundreds of square miles of shallow lagoons and white sand flats. The overall size of the Andros fishery (96 by 38 miles) is the primary reason many anglers feel that this island offers the most productive bonefishing anywhere in the Atlantic or Caribbean. Andros is one of the only islands in the Bahamas that is surrounded by flats, and it goes without saying that more flats equal more bonefish! Swain's Cay Lodge offers easy and direct access to the least-fished of all of Andros' three bights, the South Bight. Since the Lodge is located equidistant between the South and Middle Bights, guides will take you to where the tides and winds are most favorable on any given day.
The mainstream of water comes from the Tongue of the Ocean, a 6,000-foot trench that begins one mile off the east coast of Andros. This proximity to deep water ensures you will always have clear water during in any weather conditions. Collectively, all of these factors mean that you will never be fishing an off-tide, chasing fish deep in the mangroves, or fishing in off-colored water during your guided days.
The guides at Swain's Cay Lodge typically meet you at 8:00 AM on the beach to begin your guided day. Boats typically return by 5:00 PM, after that some guests fish until dark on the home flat stretching before the lodge. If the oceanside flats are choppy due to high winds, you will meet your guide inside the South or Middle Bights. On these days, the lodge taxi will deliver you to a boat ramp that is predetermined by the guide, saving you the trouble and discomfort of a long, bumpy boat ride. Aside from the area’s remarkable bonefish population, anglers can also target barracuda, sharks, jacks, snapper and even offshore species.
Boats and Equipment
The Guides working for Swain's Cay Lodge are excellent captains with many years of experience. They run 16 and 17-foot Action Craft and Dolphin Skiffs with 75HP Yamaha. All skiffs are outfitted with poling platforms, poles, plenty of rod storage, coolers with plenty of ice, and cushioned seats. For offshore days, you will fish aboard The Reel Time, a 24-foot, twin-engine center console catamaran which will pick you up at the dock on the South side of the island. Offshore spin gear, lures, bait, and plugs are provided for blue water days, but please bring all your fly gear. We always recommend having all of your fly equipment any time you leave the U.S.
How To Get There
Most guests first fly to the Nassau International Airport (NAS) and then on to the Mangrove Cay's Clarence A. Bain Airport (MAY). There are flights from Nassau to Mangrove Cay twice daily. Upon arrival on Mangrove Cay, a representative from Swain's Cay Lodge will meet you and transport you the short three miles to the Lodge. Groups of more than six people may also consider a private charter from Ft. Lauderdale direct to Mangrove Cay. Yellow Dog works with several charter companies in Ft. Lauderdale and would be happy to arrange a charter flight.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Since Swain’s Cay has no set change-over days or a required length of stay, guests can arrive and depart on any day of the week, at any time.

Client Testimonials

"A friend and I stayed at Swain’s Cay in November 2011. Although we both fish, we didn't necessarily come for the fishing. Everything was beyond our expectations! The amazing staff, delicious food, activities, and of course the fishing were wonderful! I hope to return soon."
- Lauren (Bozeman, MT)

"I was one of a group of four anglers who stayed at Swain's Cay Lodge in May 2011. Swain's is a vacation destination but is also an excellent choice for anglers as it is ten minutes from the bonefish departure dock and has an excellent flat in front of the lodge where anglers can wade and fish. Swain's is newly built and has excellent double rooms. The furniture and beds are top quality. The overall service level is very good. Food is as well. The main house holds an attractive dining room surrounded by an outdoor porch where you can watch sunrise in the morning or have drinks at night. Swain's is an excellent price point and a great value lodge!"
- Bryce (Chicago, IL)

“Swain's Cay Lodge was more than we had expected. Our unit was within 100-feet of the beach, and the accommodations were comfortable and clean. The food was excellent and varied, and a great box lunch  was provided for us to take on the boat every day. A nice lounge with snacks (conch fritters and fried conch) was a welcome destination at the end of the day. Our guides were great as well. I had fished bonefish, before but I learned more from our guide Marvin the first morning than I ever thought possible. We were into fish all day long. My partner had never bonefished at all, but by the end of the first morning, Marvin had him looking like a seasoned veteran. (All you have to do is listen!) Yellow Dog has obviously done its homework. I've fished Alaska, Canada and various places in US. The experience Yellow Dog provided is right at the top of my list. Thanks for all your work in putting our trip together. We will be back next year."
