Lodging Details
The social center for Turneffe Flats is the spacious, air-conditioned Main Lodge. A pre-dinner gathering in the Lodge for hors d'oeuvres and refreshments is customary and the screened verandah is a wonderful place to enjoy the tropical evening with new and old friends. A large deck area and a swimming pool sit before the main Lodge, perfect for non-anglers as well as fishermen looking to relax after a day on the water. Guests at Turneffe have a choice of three different choices for accommodations - all of which are the same price and included in the package rate.

Beach Cabanas
Eight spacious, air-conditioned, individual guest rooms are located directly on the beach, and all are furnished with two queen-sized beds, a large private bath with two sinks and a shower.

The Reef Villa
A three-bedroom villa with a large sitting and common area, satellite television and a small kitchenette. This Reef Villa bedroom houses two queen beds and the other two rooms offer one queen bed and two single beds, respectively. Private bathrooms adjoin every bedroom.

The Garden Villa
A three-bedroom villa with a larger common area that is set slightly back from the beach but has wonderful views of the manicured grounds and the Caribbean Sea. The Garden Villa has three nicely appointed guest rooms, each with a private bathroom.

Food and Beverages
Meals at the lodge are a combination of Belizean and American dishes served family-style in the large dining area. Fresh seafood, local produce, and home-baked pastries are standard fare. Three delicious meals per day are part of the package, and each morning you will awaken to fresh coffee or tea served on your private verandah. The main bar is well-stocked with premium liquor and offers a variety of wines, as well as local beers.

Typical Length of Stay
The standard package includes seven (7) nights / six (6) fishing days (Saturday to Saturday). Partial week packages are available with some restrictions. Please call Yellow Dog for details.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
For non-anglers, the offshore atolls of Belize are consistently rated among the “world’s best dive destinations,” and Turneffe Flats is ideally located to take advantage of this premier diving. Dive vacations can also include a day trip to Lighthouse Reef to explore the famous Blue Hole, Half Moon Wall, and Long Caye. PADI and SDI Instruction are available on-site, and the Lodge offers a wide range of courses, including Discover programs and Advanced Diver Certification.

For non-divers, Turneffe Flats has developed a full adventure package that over time has evolved into a diversified marine ecotourism experience with multiple activities from which to choose. The Lodge’s “Atoll Adventure Guides” are informative and fun, guiding from a 25-foot, twin-engine boat, allowing you access to the atoll’s entire marine ecosystem. For non-anglers or those who simply want to mix things up, this is a very flexible package that is completely adapted to the desires of guests on a day-to-day basis.

Internet / Communications
Wi-Fi is available free of charge for Lodge guests. Please bring your own laptop or PDA to access the internet. Depending on your service plan, some cell phones will also work in Belize City, but not out on the Atoll.

General Information
Bonefishing is the mainstay of fishing Turneffe and the Atoll is home to the finest wadeable flats in all of Belize. The area’s large ocean-side flats are only five to fifteen minutes from the Lodge by boat. Anglers can sight-fish to large schools of tailing bonefish at all hours of the day. There are also smaller schools of medium-sized bones and occasional large “cruisers” in the five-plus range. The bonefishing is consistently good throughout the year and offers something for anglers of all experience levels. Novice saltwater anglers can expect to see hundreds of bonefish over the course of a week, a scenario that provides a great opportunity to learn the intricacies and nuances of flats fishing. Experienced saltwater anglers will find plenty of challenging fishing and opportunities to cast to large bonefish.

As far as permit fishing goes, the Atoll is home to an exceptional population of these elusive and difficult fish. Turneffe is one of a select group of saltwater destinations where you can experience the excitement of flats fishing for permit throughout the year, either from a skiff or while wading the ocean-side flats. Anglers serious about chasing these fish can expect numerous shots at 10 to 20-pound permit and occasional shots at fish in the 20 to 35-pound class.

Finally, anglers can catch small, resident tarpon that inhabit the creeks, channels and lagoons of the Atoll throughout the year. Fishing for the larger, migratory tarpon begins in April and continues through mid-September. June through August are generally the best months for tarpon fishing, as this is the season when most of the migratory fish in the 70 to 150-pound range pass through.

Boats and Equipment
Guides fish from 16-foot Dolphin super skiffs. The lodge offers top-of-the-line rental gear and equipment from Sage, Hatch Reels, Simms and Patagonia, and sells a full range of flies, leaders, tippet and fly lines in the well-stocked fly shop.

How To Get There
International flights to Belize City's Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) go through Miami, Dallas, Houston, Newark, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Charlotte. The major airlines that service Belize are American, Delta, United, US Air, and Taca.

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Turneffe Flats is accessed only twice a week via a private transfer boat, so it is very important that you arrive into Belize City (BZE) in time to catch the boat out to the Atoll on your arrival day. Plan on arriving NO LATER than 3:00 PM. If you arrive later than that, you will have to overnight in Belize City at the Radisson Fort George Hotel, and then take the guide and staff boat out to the island early Sunday morning.

On your departure day from Turneffe, you will not want to schedule a flight out of Belize City before 11:30 AM, as there is no guarantee that you will be back at the airport before 10:00 AM that morning (The transfer boat typically leaves the lodge at 7:30 AM and arrives at the dock in Belize City at approximately 9:00 to 9:30 AM).

Documents Required
All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six (6) months of trip dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in back, and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way.  Citizens of the U.S., the British Commonwealth, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the European Community are NOT required to have Visas.

Minors Traveling To Belize Without Both Parents
If you are planning on traveling with minors, remember that all children 18 years of age or younger entering Belize accompanied by only one parent or legal guardian must have a NOTARIZED letter of consent from the other parent stating the child/children have his/her permission to enter the country. Single parents need a notarized documentation of divorce decree or death certificate of spouse. Minors unaccompanied by either parent require a NOTARIZED letter of consent signed by both parents. Please visit the Embassy of the United States web site for Belize to obtain more information.

Client Testimonials

"The entire Turneffe experience was excellent. I look forward to returning next year - if I can wait that long! I've fished throughout the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and in Mexico. This was by far the best trip I've taken."
- Frank P. (Wilmington, NC)

"This is truly a top-notch fishing and diving venue. One I would highly recommend. The staff and management could not have been more accommodating.”
- Ann and Garth J. (Citrus Heights, CA)

"Turneffe was everything you told us it would be - great fishing, awesome environment, fantastic food, and solid accommodations. In fact, there were many more intangibles that made it even more special. For example, the lodge staff is first rate and the owners are great at tailoring the right experience for everyone. My wife was able to spend three days on the boat with me and then spent the rest of the week exploring with the most amazing nature guide I have ever encountered (Abel). I think the non-fishing aspect of the lodge is not publicized the way it should be... What a great asset they have there! The lodge also arranged a short Mayan site visit while we were waiting for the flight out on Saturday. In all, an awesome time. Not sure when the next trip will fit, but we'll be coming back to work with you again."
- Lance F. (Port Hueneme, CA)

"Damn. What a trip! Excellent booking and a special place on earth. A lot of bonefish landed (and more lost), permit cast to and no takers, but WOW, what a fish to be around! Thank you so very much for your hard work in creating and making a trip to remember. Do you have any openings around the first week or second week of June? We HAVE to go back right away!"
- David H. (Salt Lake City, UT)
