General Information
Miminiska Lake is an enormous piece of water with countless bays and inlets teeming with a robust population of northern pike and walleye. Fishing on the main lake is typically done out of 14 - 15 ft. Lund boats equipped with rod holders and plenty of storage for gear. The size of the lake is such that boat runs to the fishing can be 5 minutes or up to 1 hour! Guests can elect to take a full day run to either Snake Falls or Miminiska Falls, and can also decide to stay within striking distance of the lodge for a shorter day or lunch in the main lodge.

Brook Trout – World Class Fly-out Fly Fishing Adventures for world class brook trout are fly-fishing only, single barbless flies with a catch and release philosophy.  The lodge offers a variety of adventures to suit any level of experience.  14’ and 15’ NRS expedition rafts or inflatable drift boats ensure you and your angling partner travel in the utmost of comfort as you’re guided from pool to pool and run to run in search of trophy brookies!  Trips can be totally customized for length of float; full day and/or overnight adventures.  Different rivers offer different experiences; from wide-open big river opportunities to smaller technical brook trout tributaries.  Average brook trout are typically in the 2-3 lb. rang and a 10 lb. fish is certainly a reality!

Trophy Northern Pike Fly-out Adventures for trophy northern pike on fly consist of a daylong exploration of floatplane accessible pike lakes.  The local Ojibway guides willingly pass down generations of knowledge of the area to put you in the position to potentially hook and release world-class pike in the 40-50 inch range! Many of the pike lakes see under a dozen anglers per season and a few see no one! Top water or sub-surface, these pike are voracious adversaries on a fly and they are plentiful!

Boats and Equipment Required
Most of the fly-out adventures are guided in 14-15’ NRS expedition rafts or inflatable drift boats complete with anchors and dry compartments and coolers. For longer less-fishable river stretches, each raft is equipped with 5hp 4-stroke Mercury outboards. The main lake is set up with 14-16 foot Lund aluminum boats pushed an either 9.9 or 15hp 4-stroke Yamaha outboards.

The Wilderness North and Miminiska Lodge Story
It all started in 1960 when Wilderness North founder John J. Mark, an aviation enthusiast and air force veteran, first came to Canada from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Arriving in his own planes, John, affectionately known as Jack, quickly developed a fascination with the wide open space that is Northern Ontario.

Over the next 30 years of flying in for his own fixes of the North, Jack made a decision, this part of the world was to be shared, and in 1990 he purchased his first outpost cabin and Wilderness North was born. Through it all Jack had a clear vision – to open up the great Canadian wilderness to everyone who shared his passion for Canada and the wilderness.

Client Testimonials
"I've fished all over the world - from minnows to great whites, I've been lucky enough to catch most of the world's sport fish species. The brook trout experience offered by Miminiska Lodge is right up there with the best trips I've experienced. Genuine wild fish from remote, wild places - this stuff is the real deal. And all on the fly too! I simply adore fly fishing for brook trout and Wilderness North have added value by combining float planes and canoes that allow you to penetrate remote habitats containing virgin fish. The guiding I enjoyed was first rate too - all in all a five star experience for fly fishing junkies!"
- Matt Hayes (Norway)

“The brook trout fishery at Miminiska lodge is truly world class.  Consistent shots at trophy fish in an otherwise pristine setting.  The tributaries of the Albany River teem with big brook trout, couple that with local native Ojibway guides, hundreds of miles from civilization, you truly embark on a unique fly-out adventure in Canada’s Arctic watershed.  I continue to return to Miminiska Lodge and often dream of the fish I’ve caught and released there.”
- Mark M. (Toronto, ON)
