Trip Overview

The Restigouche River Lodge is located on the banks of the world-renowned Restigouche River in New Brunswick, Canada. This river is primarily known for two things: gin-clear water and impressively large Atlantic salmon. Between 15,000 and 25,000 salmon enter the Restigouche each year—many that run 20 to 30 pounds or more. Fly fishing packages at the lodge are managed with split fishing days similar to many Atlantic salmon programs, where anglers are on the water during the most productive times of the day. Each day encompasses an early morning session and an evening session, with a five-course meal in between! The Restigouche Lodge features comfortable accommodations for up to 10 anglers as well as a spacious lounge with a panoramic view of the Restigouche River and the surrounding Chic-Choc mountains. The chef prepares three meals each day for a dining experience that is unmatched on the Gaspe Peninsula. The lodge’s motto says it all: “Come fish the land of the giants!”

FISHING

General Information: The lodge owns the rights to 3.5 miles of private and exclusive waters starting from the junction of the Matapedia River in Quebec across to New Brunswick and then to a point more than three miles upriver encompassing the shores of both New Brunswick and Quebec. Additionally, anglers have access to another 2 miles of private water from May through June, and then again in late summer and end of September. While Atlantic salmon in many of the other famous fisheries can be reluctant to strike, the Restigouche variety tends to be more aggressive, and once hooked, they’re incredibly strong and acrobatic. The river bottom is fine gravel so anglers can easily wade. The guides also fish anglers from the boat to cover some of the larger runs.

The fishing day at Restigouche is a split session. Anglers fish the morning, come back to the lodge for lunch (a five-course meal!) and then head out in the afternoon for an evening session.

Boats and Equipment Required: Restigouche River Lodge uses 26 foot Sharpe canoes. The lodge recommends bringing two rods.
