Fishing
General Information
The Isla Blanca area is a diverse and productive fishery and a “must do” for saltwater fly fishing enthusiasts. The sheer beauty of the area will make you forget that you are only 45 minutes from the heart of the Cancun Hotel Zone. During your day fishing the Isla Blanca area you will share the water with crocodiles, flamingos, sea turtles and a plethora of native and migratory birds. In a short boat ride, you will be on the flats in search of bonefish and permit or enter the mangrove canals in search of tarpon and snook near Boca Iglesias, the site of the first Catholic Church in the Americas dating back to 1517.
Isla Blanca is an ideal fishery for all levels of saltwater anglers. The angling guides are experts in the area and know which areas to target for all experience levels. They are also fly fishing enthusiasts themselves and are eager to share their skills and suggestions.
Boats and Equipment Required
Classic 18-foot Mexican panga flats skiffs are a comfortable and efficient platform for fishing. Each is equipped with a poling platform and casting deck. These pangas are ideal for push poling on the flats of Isla Blanca and cruising the narrow mangrove canals in search of tarpon and snook.
All fishing can be done with light fly fishing tackle and fly equipment. All equipment and flies are provided; however, feel free to bring your own equipment. Typically, Cancun Fly Guides uses 8 wt. and 9wt. fly fishing rods with weight-forward floating lines.
