The Berry island chain consists of over 20 islands with Great Harbor Cay and Chub Cay are the biggest, many of the numerous smaller cays are uninhabited. Surrounded by the deep water of the tongue of the ocean and the pocket, the Berries are known as the fishbowl of the Bahamas. The flats in the Berries are expansive and some of the nicest wade fishing in all of the Bahamas. The bonefish average a solid 3 -5 pounds and it is not uncommon to see large schools of bones in the skinniest of water and be able to stalk them on foot when the tide is right. There are also opportunities on these area flats to see some much larger bonefish in smaller numbers as singles or small groups. During the late spring and early summer months, there also good numbers of permit around in the Berries. The Darville brothers typically meet you at 8:00 AM at Carriearl to begin your guided day. Boats typically return by 5:00 PM. Aside from the area’s remarkable bonefish population, anglers can also target permit, barracuda, sharks, jacks, snapper, amongst others.
Boats and Equipment
Percy Darville and his brother Joe Darville are excellent captains with many years of experience. They run 16 and 17-foot Hewes Skiffs with 90HP Yamaha. All skiffs are outfitted with poling platforms, poles, plenty of rod storage, coolers with plenty of ice, bottled water, and cushioned seats. We always recommend having all of your own fly equipment anytime you leave the U.S.
