If you're looking for a laid-back and fantastic vacation to dive, fish, kayak, explore, or just relax, then Costa de Cocos is the perfect place. Lodging Details
This small, intimate fishing and dive lodge is set amidst picturesque coconut groves at the end of a very long road. The Yucatan jungle, rich with wildlife, is the Lodge's backyard, and the Caribbean Sea is literally on the front steps. At Costa de Cocos, your comfort is the priority, and the owners and staff know the value of fantastic customer service. Guests stay in one of 16 individual private cabanas, all of which are built with traditional stonework, rich tropical woods, and native thatched roofs. Each cabana has a private bathroom with hot water, dual ceiling fans, 110 AC voltage outlets, and daily maid service. Aside from great amenities, our clients also appreciate the Lodge's dedicated and impressive environmental conscience. With regards to power, all of the Lodge's 24-hour electrical power is generated by the wind.

Food and Beverages
After a long day of fishing, you can relax on the Lodge’s main deck, enjoying a cold drink and fresh appetizers from the kitchen. A fully-stocked and all-inclusive bar is always open and ice-cold cervezas are available anytime. A full continental breakfast is served every morning and the restaurant is open for lunch for those that wish to return to lodge mid-day for an afternoon break and siesta. For anglers, the lodge will pack a full cooler lunch with plenty of food, beverages and ice! Dinners at the lodge are four-course meals with a Caribbean and Mexican touch. Costa De Cocos provides purified bottled water in each cabana for drinking.

Typical Length of Stay
A standard package is seven (7) nights / six (6) fishing days (Saturday to Saturday). Shorter, custom packages and mid-week packages can also be arranged. Please contact Yellow Dog for details.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
Although Costa De Cocos is typically frequented by anglers and is definitely a fishing-focused operation, non-anglers and ecotour vacationers will feel right at home here. Non-anglers can plan a different adventure every day, from exploring Mayan ruins to beachcombing, kayaking in secluded lagoons, snorkeling the reef, local diving, or take an excursion to Bird Island, where tropical and migratory birds are abundant. A day trip to San Pedro, Belize for shopping and exploring can also be arranged. Relaxing on the beach and doing absolutely nothing at all is also an option! You can simply lounge in a hammock, relax, and gaze at the transparent turquoise waters, while sipping a cool, refreshing tropical drink. The Lodge is close to the small fishing village of Xcalak. You can easily walk into town and visit the small cantinas and restaurants.

Internet / Communications
The Lodge does offer free Wi-Fi to guests. Cell phone coverage is unavailable.

General Information
Over the past sixteen years, Costa De Cocos has discovered and pioneered a vast network of largely unexplored and unfished bonefish, tarpon, and permit flats in Chetumal Bay and in the area's mangrove-ringed inland lagoons.
They've also developed an oceanside fishery in areas with more permit and bonefish on deeper turtle grass flats. More than 30 very large, productive flats and lagoon systems have now been mapped, with new areas continuing to be explored.

Like many of the bodies of water in this part of Mexico, Chetumal Bay offers fantastic diversity with regards to species. Within 100 yards of a single shoreline flat one has the opportunity to cast at bonefish, permit and tarpon. The numerous natural channels throughout the bay provide textbook habitat for a variety of species. During certain times of year, the snook leave their mangrove sanctuaries to warm up on the flats and feed, giving anglers prime opportunities to target the "largemouth of the flats." This is truly "super-slam" territory!

The greatest thing that Costa de Cocos offers is an excellent fishery for all skill levels, from the novice angler looking to cut their teeth on bonefish to the serious angler searching for shots at 25-pound-plus permit. On calm days, the oceanside flats and drop-offs can provide excellent sight fishing opportunities for schools of permit and large, migratory tarpon. If the wind does become a problem, the lagoons behind Xcalak provide shelter as well as productive fishing for baby tarpon and snook. In addition to fishing from the 23-foot pangas, Chetumal also offers some of the best wade fishing in the Yucatan.

Boats and Equipment
All boats used by the lodge are 23-foot pangas that accommodate two fishermen and a guide. Each is constructed with a forward casting deck, tandem passenger seats, and rod racks. While a limited number of loaner rods may be available, it is recommended that anglers bring their own rods, reels, flats boots, flies, and all terminal tackle.

How To Get There
All guests should book flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN) - an easy airport to reach with direct daily flights from most cities in the U.S. and abroad. Yellow Dog and Costa de Cocos will setup a transfer for you with a transfer company based on your incoming flights or area lodging and this is included in your package. The transfer from the airport in Cancun typically takes about five (5) hours. The roads are good and the driver is more than happy to stop along the way to grab a bite, and freshen up.

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Costa de Cocos does prefer it if guests can book Saturday to Saturday dates if staying for a week. Guests are more than welcome to stay for a shorter amount of time and should plan to either arrive or depart on a Saturday for a shorter stay. Guests making their own flight reservations should try to arrive in Cancun BEFORE 2:00 PM in order to make the drive down the Xcalak and to the Lodge (a drive of approximately 5 hours). Sometimes you can save a bit on flights by booking a late afternoon or evening arrival and overnighting in Cancun prior to transferring to the lodge. We can arrange the transfer to pick up at the Cancun airport, area hotel or any resort along the Riviera Maya. Guests should schedule their departure flight AFTER 1:00 PM in order to transfer from the lodge back to Cancun with plenty of time. Keep in mind that you must check in at the Cancun Airport two (2) hours before your departing flight!

Documents Required
All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six (6) months of trips dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in back, and that it is not torn, delaminated, or damaged in any way. No visas or inoculations are required for U.S. citizens. A Mexican departure tax is payable at the airport when leaving Mexico. Some airlines include this as a prepaid part of your ticket.

Minors Travelling To Mexico Without Both Parents
If you are planning on traveling with minors, remember that all children under 18 years of age entering Mexico accompanied by only one parent or legal guardian must have a notarized letter of consent from the other parent stating the child/children have his/her permission to enter the country. Single parents need a notarized documentation of divorce decree or death certificate of spouse. Minors unaccompanied by either parent require a notarized letter of consent signed by both parents. Please visit the US Embassy in Mexico Website for more information.

"Awesome! Yellow Dog coordinated everything very well, and the lodge and the fishing program were all first-rate. Great trip!"
- John C. (Boise, ID)

“I could not have been happier with the experience. The authentic and laid back atmosphere of CDC was exactly what we were looking for and all of the employees made us feel like family. As this was our first trip to the salt, the information from Yellow Dog was invaluable and took all the guess work out of the trip, from travel arrangements to gear. I simply went through the gear list and when I got there, I felt like I had exactly what I needed. We will absolutely return to CDC and plan to utilize Yellow Dog for many trips in the future. Thank you for the great recommendation and for providing such an easy-to-use service.”
