Trip Overview

Located in Twin Bridges, Montana, Four Rivers Fishing Company is one of the oldest full-service fly fishing operations in the area. With five of Montana’s most famous rivers located within a 40-mile radius of Twin, this is truly the “trout Mecca” of the lower-48. Four Rivers is licensed to outfit on every watershed in the region, and on a daily basis guides the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Madison, Jefferson and Ruby Rivers. Four Rivers claims to have one of the best guide staffs in the region, and their combined number of seasons attests to that. To compliment their outfitting offerings, Four Rivers’ lodging program is extremely flexible and varied. They also offer their clients numerous dinning options, including various steak houses and restaurants in and close to town (a fun alternative and complement to the typical “lodge-style” meal program). Collectively, Four Rivers offers a great fishing and lodging package with some of the best prices found anywhere in the Northern Rockies.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
When traveling to Montana, many people like to “see” the area and travel throughout the region. Local attractions include horseback riding, natural hot springs, visiting Yellowstone National Park, a trip to nearby Lewis and Clark Caverns, spending time in Virginia City and the Nevada City ghost town, and taking advantage of seasonal small-town rodeos in Twin Bridges, Ennis and Dillon.

Internet / Communications
There is Wi-Fi service available in the fly shop and in one of the lodging units. There is also free Wi-Fi available at the Twin Bridges Library. With a new cell tower that was recently put in place, most cell providers now offer strong service and signal in town and throughout the surrounding area.

General Information
Twin Bridges is a small ranching community surrounded by some of the finest trout water in the Rockies. This area is known by many as the epicenter of the greatest trout fishing in Montana. Four Rivers has access to roughly 300+ miles of world-class trout waters, something that allows the guides and clients to spread out and fished uncrowded and productive waters.

The location of Four Rivers is key, as the operation is located in one of Montana’s largest but least populated valleys. The immediate are is home to the Big Hole, Beaverhead and Ruby rivers, all flowing north within a half mile from the shop to form the Jefferson River. There is a good reason that Twin Bridges holds such as a special place in the hearts of so many western fly fishermen. With the Madison River forty minutes away, the Beaverhead flowing through town, and the Big Hole a short 3-minute drive from the shop, the biggest challenge on a daily basis is deciding where to fish. Over the course of several days of guided fishing, you could end up going north one day, south the next, then east or west after that.

Boats and Equipment Required
Most fishing in this area is done using a drift boat. At certain times, the shop also utilizes two-man Scadden-style pontoon boats to access waters that are smaller, skinnier and “off the beaten path.”  Boats are typically used for both fishing and transportation, and many rivers offer great opportunities for anglers that want to get out of the boat and wade. Four Rivers is a fully-stocked, full-service fly shop, featuring many of the top brands in the industry. They are also a full dealer for Twin Bridges-based Winston Fly Rods. All flies, leaders, terminal tackle and more can be purchased upon arrival at the shop.

How To Get There
The town of Twin Bridges is located approximately 80 miles from Bozeman International Airport (BZN). Most guests who are flying to the area choose to rent a car and make the short hour and a half drive to Twin Bridges.

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Guests can arrive on any day of the week. Check-in time is after 11AM on your arrival date, and check-out time is 10AM on your departure date.

Documents Required
All anglers fishing Montana will need to buy a Montana fishing license good for the duration of their fishing trip. Licenses are available upon arrival at the shop, or they can be pre-purchased on line at the Montana FWP website.  The only required documentation to acquire your in person at the shop license is a valid drivers license or other form of government-issued ID.

Four Rivers Fishing Company has a great history in the Ruby Valley. The company has been in town since the late sixties and has remained a quality outfitting and full service fly shop since it first opened. The new shop location has a very spacious layout and provides anglers with the finest products and brands available in the industry.  They carry Patagonia, R.L. Winston Rods, Hatch Reels, Nautilus, Hardy, Ross, Columbia Sportswear, Costa Del Mar, Scientific Angler, Rio, and Airflo Fly Lines. They also have a huge selection of fly patterns from the best tyers and suppliers in the industry.

The company has recently changed ownership, and the new owners (Seth McLean and Chris Knott) have both been guiding in the area for the past 13 seasons. Seth McLean has deep roots in the area, as he grew up in Twin Bridges and knows pretty much every rancher, outfitter and local in the region. R.L. Winston also employs Seth's parents as rod designers and builders. Prior to purchasing the shop with Seth, Chris Knott worked with a number of outfitters and lodges throughout the area before basing himself in Twin Bridges doing what he loves. The new owners are nice, work great with people, and have made this program better since day one of their ownership. They also love guiding every day of the season, which means the chances are good that you’ll spend at least a day with one of them on your trip.

Client Testimonials

“What a great place! The staff and guides of Four Rivers treat you like you want to be treated and bend over backwards to put you on fish.”
Bob Clouser

"Some days on the river stay with you long after the rods are put away for the year. Sometimes it is the fishing you remember, sometimes it's the companionship, and for the lucky few, it's both. The days I spent fishing with the Four Rivers Fishing Company were the best of both and were among the top river days I’ve ever had. The fishing was exceptional, the service was professional, without losing its sense of humor, and the entire experience was squared away. You need to fish with these guys."

- Ben M.

"Thanks for a very special day on the Beaverhead. We will never forget how hard you worked for us that day. Watching you jump in and reach into the undercut bank to un-snag a 20-inch brown trout was something special."

- Jim Glabman
