A True New Zealand High-Country Experience
Nokomai Valley Lodge is home to 20 Kilometers of the Mataura River, only a two-minute drive from the Lodge, and famous for its abundance of brown trout. The Southland region is well-known for its secluded pastoral streams and close proximity to high country rivers. The guides are affiliated to the New Zealand Professional Guides Association and have lengthy knowledge and experience with the local rivers, are very popular with their clients, and attend to all the details which make a day’s fishing one to remember.
Nokomai Valley Lodge is set amongst beautiful old trees surrounding a historic stone homestead, first built in 1870, and restored in 2000. The Lodge offers comfortable, modern accommodation in country-style cottages, well set up for outdoor enthusiasts, or relaxing. All meals are included and the country cuisine is highly recommended.
Food and Beverages
Guests will enjoy a full, cooked breakfast each morning before heading out to the water. As most of the fishing is accessed on foot, a fisherman’s picnic lunch is provided to eat when desired. In the evening, Nokomai prepares an excellent homestyle-cooked dinner.
Typical Length of Stay
Trips of any length can be arranged. There is no set change-over day, so guests can arrive and depart on any day of the week.
Bird watching, hiking, farm tours, and horseback riding are all part of the other activities and experiences at the lodge. Local tours of the surrounding towns can be arranged and the “around the mountain” cycle trail is only a short distance from the lodge.
Wireless internet and satellite-delivered broadband are available throughout the lodge and in each of the guest rooms.
