The only daily fly-out program in Kamchatka, allowing anglers to access dozens of rivers each day via helicopter with zero angling pressure

Due to the present situation with Russia-Ukraine as well as ongoing Covid-19 travel restrictions, Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures will – effective immediately – be suspending our Kamchatka program and all bookings for the upcoming season. For questions and additional details, please contact Yellow Dog.

An extremely limited offering that operates only a few select weeks out of each summer season. This is a fully “airmobile” program that gives anglers the ability to fish different rivers and streams each day with daily fly-outs on a private Mi-2 Helicopter. Each night, the group will study area maps and discuss the possibilities and river options for the following day. Strategically based out of the recently renovated private lodge on the beautiful Two Yurt Lake, this program gives you access to dozens of untouched trophy trout streams, all located within a short flight out of base camp. If you have ever dreamt of fishing rivers loaded with rainbows that have literally NEVER seen a fly or angler, this is a serious option to consider.

Lodging Details
Anglers will base out of the Two Yurt Main Lodge for the week, which is one of the most established and comfortable lodges in all of Kamchatka. The Two Yurt Lodge is equipped with private rooms for two anglers, hot showers, flush toilets, and a central dining area to converse with the group and discuss plans with the guides and pilots of where you will be fishing the next day. Located in one of the most scenic valleys in all of Kamchatka, the lodge also has an on-site hot spring that guests are free to use each day after fishing.

Food and Beverages
The Rainbows From Above Lodge staff and guides take great pride in providing a quality culinary experience each day of your trip. Each day, breakfast will be served in the main lodge and typically consists of oatmeal or porridge, homemade jams, bacon, eggs, coffee, and tea. Lunch will be served on the river each day including sandwiches, cold cuts, cheeses, and a variety of different snacks to keep you going on the water. Each evening, dinner will be served family-style and is a staple meal each evening, consisting of soups, stews, a variety of different meats, fish, and plenty of sides and vegetable dishes.

Typical Length of Stay
Due to the set weekly flight from Anchorage (ANC) to Petropavlovsk Airport (PKC), the standard package is six (6) nights / five (5) fishing days.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
Activities for non-anglers are very limited, as the Rainbows From Above Program is primarily a fishing-focused destination. That said, guests will no doubt enjoy the area itself, as the scenery of the nearby mountain valleys provides breathtaking panoramic displays: tamarack and birch forests, wildlife, snow-capped mountains, glimpses of glaciers and volcanoes, and salmon-rich, gin-clear water. The on-site hot springs is also a great place to relax and take in the scenery each evening after fishing.

Internet / Communications
Internet access is not available during your stay and cell phones will not work during your visit.

Travel Details

How To Get There
Yakutia Air has announced that they will once again be flying the direct route from Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) to Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka (PKC) which is the quickest and easiest option. Flights will operate weekly from mid-July to mid-September. More information on these flights can be found by contacting Yellow Dog.

Arrival and Departure Times
With direct flight service to Kamchatka (PKC) from Anchorage (ANC), anglers can once again enjoy a quick and easy flight to the best rainbow trout fishing on the planet. The weekly Yakutia Air flight will depart from Anchorage on Monday mornings, with arrival in Kamchatka the following morning once the plane crosses the international dateline. With this schedule, anglers will no longer have to overnight in Petro on their way to camp, instead of proceeding directly from the airport to the helicopter that same day. After a great week of fishing, you will arrive back in Anchorage the following Monday evening. You will arrive back in Anchorage the same Monday morning after crossing back over the international dateline. This early arrival back to the States allows plenty of time to clear U.S. customs and immigration to connect up with your flight home that same day. For any international anglers not looking to travel through Anchorage OR if you would like to spend additional time in Russia, there are options to fly through Moscow, Russia, or Seoul, South Korea to arrive at Petro on different schedules.

General Information
Each morning of the trip, anglers will load into the Mi-2 Helicopters with your pilot and guides for the day and depart to a different fishery. Plans are decided upon the night before with the guides based on the best fishing opportunities and your preferences for the next day’s adventure. The Rainbows from Above guide team knows the area and fisheries extremely well and will ensure anglers see a variety of different water over the course of the week, and some of the most remote and untouched freshwater fishing opportunities in the world. The primary target each day will be the incredible rainbow trout species in the area, all done on topwater mouse patterns, streamers, and dry flies. Salmon, dolly varden, and grayling are also available in many of these fisheries. This is hands down one of the most remote and customizable trips in the entire world of destination freshwater angling.

Boats and Equipment
Once you arrive in Kamchatka, you will travel by both bus and Mi-8 helicopter from Petro to the Two Yurt Main Lodge. Each morning of the trip, anglers and guides will load into the smaller Mi-2 helicopters stationed at the lodge and fly to your designated fishery for the day. Due to the remote nature of each fishery, this is primarily a wade fishing destination. If anglers are interested in stalking big rainbow trout on foot and fishing smaller water and streams, this is a perfect destination. It is recommended that all anglers are in decent physical condition and can cover a reasonable amount of water on foot each day. There is no rental or demo equipment available on this trip, and no flies, leaders, or tippet for sale. That means that anglers will have to bring everything that they will need with them, including rods, reels, lines, and backup lines, all terminal tackle, waders, boots, and all flies. Please refer to Yellow Dog’s detailed pre-trip materials and packing lists for all required and recommended equipment.
