In the Heart of Permit Heaven
The Palometa Club, the self-declared “#1 Permit Lodge in the World,” is located in the heart of Ascension Bay. The lodge has specialized in targeting saltwater angling’s top prize for over a decade, with over 2000 permit to hand. The guides utilize a 1:1 guide-to-client ratio, allowing for more eyes on the water and plenty of guidance while pursuing schools of permit. In addition, the lodge’s guides are seasoned veterans for targeting the other species of Ascension bay, boasting dozens of grand slams each year. In 2022, the lodge renovated its accommodations to ensure its guests found it welcoming, comfortable, and above all, one of the nicest lodges in Punta Allen. An onsite fly shop, reliable internet, and a complimentary bar are just a few amenities guests can expect to enjoy during their stay.

Lodging Details
Nestled on the beach of Ascension Bay, The Palometa Club is settled in the heart of the small town of Punta Allen. Built in the area’s tradition, the lodge is constructed of indigenous woods and local tilework, creating an authentic and welcoming basecamp for a week of fishing. Six double-occupancy rooms are complete with private bathrooms, air-conditioning, ample space for storage, comfortable bedding, a walk-in shower, and windows for enjoying the nearby scent of the sea.
The lodge’s dining room sits adjacent to the open kitchen, where authentic Mayan, Caribbean, and Mexican cuisine is prepared each day. An onsite fly-tying study, library/living room, and a well-stocked bar make for ample options for time off the water. Many guests choose to enjoy the ocean-facing bar outside, where margaritas, local rums, and cold beer are readily available. With plenty of seating, cocktail hour and post-fishing stories are generally enjoyed in the warmth of Punta Allen, or anglers can take up casting practice along the lapping waves of the Caribbean.
Renovated in the summer of 2022, the lodge aims to be one of the Yucatan region’s most comfortable, inviting, and high-end lodges. Seeking a refined but inviting atmosphere, the lodge’s new décor and amenities mean time off the water is restorative and comfortable.
Food and Beverages
The Palometa Club seeks for guests to enjoy their meals as much as the fishing—serving fresh, authentic local cuisine daily. Breakfast staples, including eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, and local fruit, are enjoyed with plenty of rich Mexican coffee. For lunch, a packed lunch is enjoyed on the panga, generally consisting of a sandwich, fruit, dessert, and water, soda, or beer.
Cocktail hour is a special time at the lodge, with freshly caught ceviche and handmade empanadas awaiting guests. Guests can enjoy these refreshments with ice-cold margaritas or a local cerveza, before dinner is served family style in the evening. Dinner consists of fresh seafood, vegetables, braised meats, and traditional soups inspired by the local culture. Guests can expect to enjoy house-made salsas and guacamole and traditional dishes such as chile relleno and pollo con mole, and traditional sopas.
Typical Length of Stay
The most common package is seven (7) nights, six (6) days, but shorter trips of four, five, or six nights can be accommodated.
Non-angling Activities and Options
While primarily a fishing destination, the area around Ascension Bay does offer some excellent non-angling opportunities. Located next to the second-largest reef in the world, snorkeling alongside turtles, rays, sharks, and a myriad of tropical species is an excellent option for non-anglers. Trips to nearby Mayan ruins and wildlife tours are available, as well as trips to the popular nearby town of Tulum. Finally, the beach in front of the lodge is perfect for soaking up the Caribbean sun, with an outdoor bar nearby and a massage therapist available.
Internet / Communications
Cell phone service is unreliable in Punta Allen, but the lodge provides high-speed Wi-Fi for all guests.

How To Get There
All guests should book flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN). From there, you will be met by an by air-conditioned vehicle and transferred by van to Boca Paila Lagoon where a boat will take you to the lodge. The boat transfer allows a faster and easier means of accessing Punta Allen and the ability to bypass poor road conditions.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
It is very important to arrive in Cancun BEFORE 2:00 PM and set up your departure flights home for AFTER 1:00 PM. in order to coordinate with the transfers between the airport and the lodge. If you miss your transfer, you may have to pay for a private transfer or stay overnight in Cancun.
Upon arrival in Cancun, a representative from NAST transfer service will be waiting just outside the airport doors to greet you and direct you to your shuttle. The shuttle will take you between 2 1/2 – 3 hours south to the Boca Paila bridge boat landing, just south of Tulum, Mexico. The Lodge boats will be there to meet you at the landing and take you the rest of the way to the lodge in Punta Allen. In case of later arrivals or bad weather, we may make the call to cancel the boat transfer and have guests brought to the lodge entirely by shuttle van. The drive from the Boca Paila bridge to the lodge is between 1-2 hours depending on road conditions.
The included transfer is a ‘van / boat’ combo to and from the lodge and is certainly the most timely and convenient. A ‘van only’ transfer to and from the lodge can be arranged for a reduced package cost. Please contact Yellow Dog for details.

General Information
Ascension Bay is no secret in the world of destination angling, but it continues to deliver year after year. Home to all of the major game species, Palometa Club is geared towards anglers hoping to catch permit. Illusive, unpredictable, and downright obnoxious at times, permit demand the most of an anglers abilities and patience. Palometa Club’s guides are some of the best in the business of scouting, reading, and catching permit, and their success over the past decade justifies their claim as the best permit lodge in the world.
Guests generally fish two anglers to a boat, but single angling options are possible. The guides, including the captain on the poling platform and an assistant guide in the panga, work in tandem to maximize the potential for finding and hooking up with permit. The benefit of a second guide cannot be oversold, as they are able to eliminate potential issues like tangled lines, hangups in the panga, or can manage multiple rods to ensure anglers are always in a ready position. Oftentimes, the angler and second guide will wade fish for permit while the poling guide uses his position to choreograph the best course of action. This system is effective and a major component of Palometa Club’s success rate.
Boats and Equipment
The lodge does offer high-end rental rods and reels if notified in advance. Anglers should bring their own flies, terminal tackle, and apparel. Guides use 23’ pangas to fish the Ascension Bay region, which are designed to handle rough seas and draft shallow on the flats. A massive casting deck grants anglers ample space and a high-vantage point for sighting fish.
