GRA offers you the opportunity to get away from the busy life, and enjoy a three day steelhead float trip on a wild and scenic river, an easy day of travel from anywhere in the Lower 48 states. Your first night is at Boggan's Oasis in a small cozy cabin with hot showers and twin beds. Boggan's is located at the bridge where you will be putting in the next morning. There is a great run out in front of Boggan's for fishing on your own upon arrival. Camping will be on the river’s edge with cots, therma-rests, hot showers, tables, chairs, and large tents with capacity for two anglers per tent.
Food and Beverages
The first night’s dinner and the following morning's breakfast is provided by Boggan's Oasis. Food on the river and at camp consists of deli style lunches with hearty camp-cooked dinners and breakfasts. If you bring any alcohol, please put it in a plastic container or bring cans (BYOB). Non-alcoholic drinks are included.
Typical Length of Stay
Three (3) nights and three (3) guided days. Night #2 and #3 are spent camping on the river.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Non-angling activities include photography, hiking, and bird hunting. The area is full of great places to visit like Joseph, one hour south of Boggan's – a bronze and arts community with amazing views of the Eagle Cap wilderness and Wallowa Lake. The old town of Flora has views of the deepest gorge in North America and can be seen from Hat Point, a short drive from Joseph. Lewiston and Clarkston are a short hour drive north and have access to the Snake River and offer tours into Hells Canyon.
Internet / Communications
Boggan's Oasis does have WIFI but there is no cell coverage on the river.
September and October are great times of year for chasing steelhead on the fly and the Grande Rhonde is a fantastic river with good numbers of both wild and hatchery summer run steelhead. The early season allows for fish to be taken on the surface with a skated dry fly and also offers an experience of solitude on the river. The river is slick and has impossible stretches to wade and fish. We will put you into very user friendly runs as you cast and step towards your next fish. The clinic and lunch are streamside each day around noon, and chairs and a table are set up so you are comfortable. GRA provides all camping gear, food and beverages, guides for each two anglers, fishable and comfortable rafts, flies, leader, tippet, and extra rods and reels if needed for the trip. Other gear requests can usually be accommodated.
Boats and Equipment Required
The Steelhead on the Grande Ronde are "A" with some "B" run fish. Meaning that on the larger side you might land a 10 to 12 pound "B" run fish, and maybe on the smaller side you may land a 5 to 7 pound "A" run fish. We recommend a 6 or 7 weight spey rod, and a 7 or 8 weight single-handed rod. Bring floating lines, wading boots with studs, a wading staff, sunglasses, waders, and a hat for warmth and one for sun protection. Bring some wading socks as some days it gets warm and you can wet wade! A vest or fanny pack works well, as does a small dry bag while in the rafts. A head lamp and a warmer jacket for the evenings and mornings, shoes to kick around camp in, and a packable sleeping bag should also be packed for this trip. Grande Ronde Angler provides all dry bags and camping gear. The guides use both hard bottom drift boats and rafts.
How To Get There
Guests should book flights into Lewiston, Idaho at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport (LWS) for the smoothest travel. Boggan's Oasis is a one hour drive south of Lewiston, Idaho. The drive to Boggan's is about a six (6) hour drive from Seattle Portland, and Boise. Transportation to and from the airport in Lewiston, Idaho can be arranged. Please call Yellow Dog for details and pricing.
Arrival and Departure Details
