Experience Montana's Wilderness
For anglers looking to experience not only great fishing opportunities for wild trout, but an off-the-grid adventure, then an overnight float fishing trip in Montana is for you. On an overnight trip, anglers float down and fish throughout the day in rafts. Gorgeous scenery is met with total seclusion, which provides the ultimate Montana backcountry fly fishing expedition. When floating the river, you will do so with experienced guides that know the river intimately. Anglers will camp on the banks of the river, where everything from food to camping accommodations is properly taken care of prior to your arrival each evening. Nights are centered around a campfire under a blanket of stars and the very visible Milky Way. If you want to throw a few more casts while dinner is being prepared, you can take a walk along the river.
There is something special about these overnight fishing expeditions that many Yellow Dog team members take part in around the west each summer. Long days on the water coupled with great friends and a hearty meal around a campfire at night engrains long-lasting memories for everyone.
We currently offer two of Montana’s top overnight backcountry fly fishing float trips, the North and Middle Fork of the Flathead and the infamous Smith River.
“What a top-notch outfitter, honestly, probably the best I’ve experienced. Crew, food, camp and guides 10 on a scale of 10. Joe had dinner with us the night before put-in and I can see why they all have the utmost respect for him and the way he treats people and conducts his business. Thanks to Yellow Dog for your help along the way. Oh, and when’s the last time the shuttle company washed and vacuumed your vehicle and left you a thank you note? Thanks again.” – Ron K.
