While the pursuit of fish and (ideally) the catching of fish are for many the motivating factors for traveling to new waters, for me the most consequential part of being an angler has always revolved around the places that flyfishing takes us. This quest for adventure and travel has charted and defined my obsession – and vocation – from a young age. I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, fish, and photograph many unique locations, and while the fishing was often been the “reason” for making these trips, the people, the destinations, and the adventures themselves are always the things I remember most. 
 
As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Yellow Dog as a company, we also celebrate the amazing places we’ve visited and fished over these many years. To commemorate and observe this milestone, we’ve designed a two reel set of limited edition fly reels for both saltwater and freshwater adventures. Working in conjunction with artist Paul Puckett and Abel Reels, we are pleased to offer these reels to anglers and explorers who share our same passion for flyfishing the world.

The Reel

Winner of the best new freshwater reel for 2018 by Fly Fisherman Magazine and Best of Show at the 2017 ICAST/IFTD industry trade show, the SDF comes on the heels of our move to Colorado: the trout-based surroundings inspired us to take it up a notch.

Based on the SDS (Sealed Drag Salt), the SDF (Sealed Drag Fresh) is a scaled-down version of the award-winning saltwater titan featuring similar porting and a stainless steel / carbon fluoropolymer drag system. The SDF boasts an enormous amount of drag, an adjustment range almost three times greater than its predecessor, and virtually zero start up inertia.

We took what was learned from our SDS design, made sure to include the unmistakable Abel fit and finish, and created the best freshwater reel we have ever seen.

Our products are manufactured only from the finest grades of aluminum, stainless steel and other exotic materials on precision Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery used for aerospace and medical devices.  We hold the closest tolerances in the industry, resulting in products that last a lifetime.

To produce our high quality products, we precision machine 100% of our parts in-house. We used advanced, proprietary machining processes and finishing methods. The entire production line, from the inception of a new product, through to its design, prototyping, testing, iterating and all the way to the final product, happens in our R&D lab. This commitment to excellence ensures that we have a competitive, high-performance edge over our competition.

Warranty

Abel® products carry a lifetime warranty that covers the repair or replacement of parts due to defect in material or workmanship.

*Our warranty is valid for the original owner only, i.e., it is not transferable and is in effect only for products purchased through an Authorized Abel Dealer. Abel will determine if the product is covered under this warranty due to faulty material or workmanship. Parts for older or discontinued models may be replaced with parts for current models. Colors may vary between original and replacement parts. eBay® and any other similar auction or discount arenas do not carry any warranty.

For repairs not covered by the warranty, a quote will be provided upon request for approval before proceeding with any repair(s).
