Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a fly fishing retail associate. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to both store and on-line customers, sharing your expertise on fly fishing gear and techniques, and ensuring the smooth operation of the Yellow Dog retail shop. If you have a genuine love for fly fishing, excellent communication skills, and strong customer service capabilities, this position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the thriving Yellow Dog community.

  • Responsibilities:
    Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, providing personalized recommendations and advice on fly fishing gear, equipment, and apparel.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of fly fishing techniques, including fly selection, rigging, river etiquette and casting capabilities. Utilize this knowledge to guide customers toward appropriate products for their needs.
  • Maintain an organized and visually appealing retail environment, including arranging and replenishing merchandise displays, properly labeling and pricing inventory, and monitoring inventory levels.
  • Process point-of-sale transactions accurately and efficiently, including cash, credit card, and other payment methods, while following established company procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve sales targets, actively engaging in cross-selling and upselling opportunities to maximize customer satisfaction and revenue.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new products, and advancements in fly fishing technology. Attending team workshops and training seminars as required, in order to provide up-to-date information to customers.
  • Assist with receiving and unpacking merchandise shipments, checking for accuracy, and ensuring products are entered and stored appropriately.
  • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a prompt and professional manner, striving to resolve all issues to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the sales floor, storage areas, and fitting rooms.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including loss prevention measures, cash handling guidelines, and safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for fly fishing with a strong knowledge of techniques, gear, and apparel.
  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service role is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage customers in a friendly manner and provide exceptional service.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Detail-oriented and attentive to accuracy and details when processing transactions and handling inventory.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when occasionally required.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy merchandise.
  • Knowledge of area rivers and fisheries is preferred but not required.

Pay Range:

Level 1 – Candidates without previous retail experience: $12.50-$13.50/hourly 

Level 2 – With previous fly shop experience: $15.00-$16.00/hourly DOE 

Level 3 – Previous fly shop experience + open and closing responsibilities: $16.50-$17.50/hourly DOE
