Shilton Reels

Shilton Reels was born in the late 1990s in South Africa, founded by Tony Frittelli, who combined his engineering expertise with his passion for fly fishing to address gaps in reel performance. The first model, the CL Series, launched commercially in 2001 after extensive testing, featuring a polymer disk drag system engineered for ultra-smooth operation and minimal backlash. Building on this foundation, Shilton introduced saltwater-specific designs like the SL and later the rugged SR, incorporating large cork drag discs and open, easy-to-clean systems. Their reels are precision-machined from high-grade aluminum in their own CNC-equipped facility, earning them a prestigious South African Design Excellence Award in 2010. Over time, Shilton has expanded its freshwater lineup to include the CK and CR models, gaining a reputation worldwide for simplicity, durability, and fly reels that truly “stop fish.”

Shilton Reels are proudly designed and entirely manufactured in South Africa, with their entire machining and fabrication process handled locally—including all main components, except for small stock parts like screws or bearings.

Shilton’s saltwater reels, such as the SL and SR series, use an open cork disc drag that is powerful, durable, and easy to service in remote locations. Their freshwater reels, including the CL, CK, and CR models, feature sealed carbon and stainless-steel disc drags that provide smooth performance, low startup inertia, and consistent braking power.

Shilton Reels are covered by a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner, valid only if purchased from an authorized Shilton dealer. This warranty includes repair or replacement of parts or reels that exhibit defects in materials or workmanship.
