Orvis Fly Lines

Founded in 1856 by Charles F. Orvis in Manchester, Vermont, the Orvis Company began with a simple mission: to provide superior fly-fishing equipment backed by exceptional customer service. Over the decades, Orvis grew into a trusted leader in fly fishing and wingshooting while also expanding into travel, apparel, fine gifts, and innovative products for dogs. Privately owned by the Perkins family since 1965, the company is still headquartered in southwestern Vermont, with major operations in Virginia and the United Kingdom. Today, Orvis employs about 1,500 people and is recognized as an international, multi-channel retailer.

Orvis fly lines are currently manufactured by Scientific Anglers, a company based in Midland, Michigan. Scientific Anglers, which Orvis acquired in 2013, specializes in producing a full range of fly lines—including those carrying the Orvis brand—and remains the leader in fly line innovation.

To care for your Orvis fly line, clean it by stripping the line into a sink of warm, soapy water and letting it soak for about 10 minutes, then pulling the line through a clean cloth to remove dirt. After drying, apply fly line dressing with a cloth to protect the line and enhance its floatability and slickness for better casting. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, sunscreen, and other solvents, as these can damage the line's coating.
