Fly Line Backing
Fly line backing is an essential component of fly fishing gear, providing additional line length and strength to handle fast-running fish. It is a thin, strong line attached to the reel before the fly line, typically made of Dacron, Gel Spun Polyethylene (GSP), or braided nylon. The primary purpose of backing is to extend the total line capacity beyond the typical 80-100 feet of fly line, enabling anglers to fight fish that take long runs as well as help balance a reel/rod.Â
