Yellow Dog Combo Trips

Golden Dorado + Argentina Patagonia Combo Trips

August 12, 25

Anglers traveling through Argentina on their way to Patagonia are primed to experience golden dorado fishing nearby! These dorado extensions can be as simple as a single day trip within Buenos Aires, or part of a longer, extended stay at a lodge in Argentina or nearby Uruguay for a dedicated golden dorado experience.

Why A Combo Trip?

It’s rare for anglers to experience such dramatically different fishing in a single international trip. Combining golden dorado fishing with a week in Argentine Patagonia offers two distinct fisheries while maximizing the time and expense invested in traveling to South America. Dorado options range from easy day trips out of Buenos Aires to extended stays at dedicated lodges or aboard mothership operations. Many anglers who take advantage of this combination return home feeling like it took their overall trip experience to another level and becomes one of the highlights of the trip.

Who Is This Trip For?

This combination is most convenient for anglers traveling to Patagonia through Buenos Aires, Argentina. While it can be arranged for those fishing in Chile, it involves additional flights and travel logistics.

We recommend it for anyone looking to add a completely different fishing experience to their time in Patagonia. For those wanting just one or two days at the beginning or end of a trip, day outings from Buenos Aires are easy to coordinate. Anglers looking for three or more days of dorado fishing in destinations such as the Iberá Wetlands or Paraná River can choose from several options that require an additional flight or extended drive within Argentina or into neighboring Uruguay.

Fishing Details

The most popular combination trip is adding on a day or two of dorado fishing in Buenos Aires on the front or back end of a trip to Patagonia. An easy 30-minute transfer from your hotel puts anglers in the hands of Urban Dorado Anglers (UDA) who have access to the Río de la Plata, one of the widest rivers in the world, and the Paraná Delta, which feeds the Río de la Plata. This system is a wondrous maze of water that is home to some exceptional fly fishing for dorado, wolfish, and other species. It is also possible to be picked up right from your overnight international flight and head straight to the water, though we suggest adding a day for ease and comfort.

For more extended trips, Yellow Dog can coordinate a flight to Corrientes out of Buenos Aires for a stay at Pira Lodge, Suinda Lodge, or Pinti's Dorado on the Fly. Or, we can coordinate a transport by car to Uruguay's Rio Mate Lodge or for an extended stay aboard the Golden Dorado River Cruiser

Golden dorado fishing in these regions is typically done from skiffs, covering structure-rich banks, submerged timber, and sandbars where fish ambush prey. Anglers cast large streamers, cover water, and look to entice a bite. In the Iberá Wetlands, smaller creeks and channels can offer some sight-casting opportunities, while the Paraná River’s main channels and side lagoons provide shots at larger fish in powerful current. Floating and sinking lines are both used depending on conditions, with most action focused on precise, repetitive casts to holding water as opposed to clear-water sight fishing opportunities more associated with Bolivia.

Due to the custom nature of combination packages, rates and inclusions/exclusions vary by programs and length of stay. If you would like to learn more, Please Contact Yellow Dog for details.
