Alphonse to Outer Atolls Experience

August 18, 25

There are several ways to approach a combination trip to the Seychelles, with opportunities to link multiple destinations into a single itinerary. For many anglers, the goal is to make the most of the long journey by extending their stay, while others may prefer to spend a few days warming up before heading to their primary destination. The feasibility of different combinations often depends on the start and finish dates of each program, as well as the time of year, since each atoll operates on slightly different seasonal schedules.

Alphonse is the most popular destination to pair with an outer island, largely because it offers shorter stays (less than seven nights) and has multiple weekly flights on and off the island. Since every outer island transfer stops at Alphonse on the way in and out, combining the two is seamless and doesn’t require returning to Mahé, making it an ideal hub for building a multi-leg itinerary.

Why A Combo Trip?
For many anglers, the journey to the Seychelles involves a full day or more of international travel, often with 16–24 hours of flight time before even reaching Mahé, depending on your point of origin. Beginning your trip at Alphonse before venturing farther into the outer islands is a smart way to ease into the time difference, shake off travel fatigue, and warm up for the fishing ahead. It also provides the chance to spend a relaxed week with a non-angling partner or family member before heading off on a more fishing-focused adventure—earning that “hall pass” guilt-free. Combining destinations also opens the door to a wider range of opportunities, as certain atolls are known for specific target species while others fish more generally. By pairing Alphonse with an outer island leg, you make the long journey even more worthwhile, maximizing the return on your travel investment while experiencing the full variety of the Seychelles’ remote and unique fisheries.

Who Is This Trip For?
This combination trip is well-suited for anglers of all experience levels, from first-time saltwater fly fishers to seasoned veterans chasing new species. It’s also an excellent option for couples or families looking to balance world-class fishing with time together in a beautiful and remote setting. And for those checking destinations off a bucket list, few places rival the Seychelles in terms of both adventure and exclusivity.

Fishing Details
For the outer islands of the Seychelles—Astove, Farquhar, Providence, and Cosmoledo—fishing packages are fixed, with a seven-night stay and six full days of guided fishing, dictated by a single weekly flight in and out of each atoll. When paired with Alphonse, however, anglers have more flexibility. Multiple weekly flights to and from Alphonse make it possible to customize the length of your stay, whether you prefer to add a few extra days before or after your outer island adventure. Time on Alphonse can be tailored to your interests, with options ranging from guided flats fishing and bluewater charters to simply relaxing and enjoying the island’s amenities before or after a dedicated week of fishing on an outer island.
