Ant Flies
Ants are one of the most reliable terrestrial foods for trout, found along nearly every river, stream, and lake. When wind or rain knocks them into the water, their small, dark silhouette and struggling drift can quickly get a fish’s attention. Ant patterns imitate this familiar snack, riding low in the surface film and often producing strikes even when other flies are refused. They are especially effective during warm summer afternoons and on calm, clear days when trout are feeding selectively.
