Jungle Combo Trips

August 13, 25

Fly fishing in the Brazilian Amazon offers access to some of the most remote and diverse freshwater fisheries in the world. Anglers target species like peacock bass, arapaima, payara, arowana, and more in a range of habitats rich with wildlife and a rawness found in few other destinations.

Why A Combo Trip?

For anglers traveling deep into the Amazon, a combination itinerary is one of the best ways to maximize time, variety, and the effort already invested in reaching such a remote destination. Most jungle fisheries in Brazil focus on a single marquee species, whether it’s trophy peacock bass, massive arapaima, or aggressive payara. By pairing two programs in the same region, anglers can experience a broader range of environments, techniques, and target species in one trip. This approach not only increases variety, but also provides a deeper understanding of the Amazon’s remarkable diversity and the unique challenges each fishery presents.

Who Is This Trip For?

These trips are best suited for intermediate to experienced anglers seeking adventurous fishing in some of the Amazon’s most remote waters. Long days, repetitive casting, and battles with hard-fighting fish make them ideal for those looking to maximize time on the water and pursue trophy catches.

Fishing Details

Given the size of Brazil, the remoteness of the fisheries, varying fishing seasons, and travel logistics, there are only a few combination packages we typically recommend. Because each of the following recommendations are owned by the same outfitter, transfers are straightforward and are accommodated by direct flights between lodges! These combinations include:

  • Rio Marié Lodge + Pirarucú Lodge
  • Rio Marié Lodge + Xingu Lodge
  • Xingu Lodge + Pirarucú Lodge

Rio Marié Lodge
Rio Marie is widely regarded as the premier Amazon destination for anglers in search of trophy-sized peacock bass. Spanning more than two million hectares and encompassing over 180 creeks, 60 lakes, and three rivers, this fishery offers vast and varied water. Despite its size, Rio Marie is a quality-over-quantity destination, where anglers should be prepared for long, focused days in pursuit of the fish that make this region legendary. Cichla temensis—the largest peacock bass species—can reach weights of up to 35 pounds in the upper Rio Negro, putting them in a class of their own. The Rio Marie program is built around a full week of fishing.

Pirarucu Lodge
Pirarucu Lodge sits in the heart of the world’s largest arapaima reserve. These waters hold impressive numbers of arapaima—the largest freshwater species on the planet—along with healthy populations of arowana and tambaqui, both of which can often be sight-fished with dry flies. In addition to full-week programs, Pirarucu also offers shorter stay options.

Xingu Lodge
Settled within the wilderness territory of the Kayapo tribe, Xingu Lodge focuses on fishing for various aggressive species. Top of the list is the payara, most notable for its razor-sharp teeth and violent predatory nature, giving it the nickname “vampire fish.” In addition, anglers can target the region’s famed peacock bass, wolfish, matrincha, and more. Anglers fish with both an English-speaking guide and a member of the indigenous Kayapo tribe to ensure a superior fishing experience. The Xingu program is offered only as a full-week fishing trip.

Due to the custom nature of combination packages, rates and inclusions/exclusions vary by programs and length of stay. If you would like to learn more, Please Contact Yellow Dog for details.
