Indicators

A strike indicator is a small, buoyant tool attached to your leader or tippet to help detect subtle strikes when nymph fishing. Indicators act like a visual “bobber” on the water, letting you see when a fish eats your fly or when your drift is dragging.

Indicators come in a variety of designs, including foam, yarn, putty, and air-lock styles. Foam and bubble-style indicators are durable and highly buoyant, making them great for larger flies or heavy rigs. Yarn indicators are lightweight, land softly, and excel in technical or shallow water situations. Putty indicators can be molded to size, offering maximum adjustability. Air-lock and similar modern designs attach securely without kinking leaders and can be moved up or down the line with ease.
