What: Looking for a unique parent/teen fly fishing/service trip this summer? Join us in Xcalak, Mexico August 10-17, 2024!
Through Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation, Yellow Dog Fly Fishing is excited to offer a unique immersion package this summer for an angling parent and a teenager volunteer. “A service-based experience is the difference between just going somewhere and wanting to do something to benefit others,” said Klug, YDCCF’s co-director. “Today’s youth can be energized by the opportunity to improve the world through education.”
Through this immersion-combo package, one adult will enjoy a week of discounted guided fly fishing while their teenager engages in a community service project teaching English to adults and children in the community. Some background in Spanish is encouraged, but not required.
On This Program Your Teenager Will…
- Teach English to local community members through hands on lessons, dialogues, and games
- Help establish new day camp program for youth at the Xcalak Community Youth Center
- Explore the local community, snorkel, fly fish, and swim through organized afternoon activities
- Develop an ongoing opportunity for local participants to continue their English practice
- Learn about the challenges and opportunities that exist in a small fishing community
- Enjoy cultural activities, including final evening raffle and celebration of learning
- Gather books, notebooks, writing utensils, workbooks, and other school supplies for the local community.
