US Rockies: Snowpack and Summer Streamflow Update

May 03, 23
Updated: May 11, 2022

Much of the western United States is in good shape for fish-friendly summer-time streamflows. Snowpack throughout Montana and Idaho is looking great, as most river basins are sitting at or above-average levels, for this time of year! After the typical runoff that occurs in April and May, we can start to feel good about our summer season of fly-fishing the rivers and creeks of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

Yellow Dog's Jake Wells is available to assist with questions you may have about a summer-time fly fishing trip. If you have already booked your 2022 fly fishing trout trip to the western United States, you're in great shape! Unlike the past couple of years, as of today, we'll most likely see solid streamflows through the hot month of August.

If you haven't booked your trip yet and you still want to experience fly fishing in the U.S. Rockies, then do not wait. While your options are somewhat slim due to availability at lodges, we do have some spots open at several lodges in the August-September timeframe.
