General Belize Info
The climate in Belize is subtropical, with continuous, prevailing breezes from the Caribbean Sea. The country has an average temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity is nicely tempered by ocean breezes. During summer months, the temperature rarely exceeds 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter lows are seldom below 65 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night. On the flats, the water temperature will vary between 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 84 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Annual rainfall ranges from 50 inches in the north, to 170 inches in the south. Although the rainy season is usually between June and August and the dry season is between February and May, global weather changes are making historical predictions somewhat invalid. Fishing

General Information
For those wanting to focus specifically on permit on the fly, the waters of southern Belize are arguably the finest in saltwater fishing. While other species are found throughout the area, permit are the most sought-after and desired fish for saltwater anglers traveling to Belize. A short thirty to forty-five-minute boat ride will bring anglers to offshore flats in search of tailing or cruising fish. If stalking difficult, tailing fish in one of the most resoundingly beautiful areas of Belize sounds like your kind of day, this trip is for you! Permit fishing requires patience and persistence, sometimes leaving anglers baffled by their selectiveness and unpredictable nature. However, the prize is worth every bit of time invested. If anglers prefer to stay closer to shore, there are some opportunities for juvenile tarpon and snook in the rivers and lagoons of the mainland. This is a fishery prized for its beauty, its abundance of flats, and for the sickle-tailed fish who occupy them.

Boats and Equipment Required
Guides fish from 23-foot Mexican super pangas, outfitted with a poling platform, comfortable seats, and a large and spacious casting deck. It is recommended that you bring your own equipment, but in the event that tackle is needed, these guides provide the highest quality rods, reels, and lines.

About the Outfitter

A Placencia day trip with the Garbutt Brothers gives you the opportunity to chase bonefish, tarpon, permit, and snook. The boat ride can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes with the scenic view of flush mangrove vegetation in the backcountry/lagoon, creeks, river, or wading pristine clear flats.  Sometimes, anglers will even fish around beautiful white sandy beach islands near the largest barrier reef in this hemisphere. We fish out of a 23ft pangas perfectly rigged for flats fishing even with a canopy when necessary. It is an 8 hours day trip that starts usually around 7 am and ends at 3 pm. Placencia is home to some of the best wading flats for permit in the world.
