General Belize Info
The climate in Belize is subtropical, with continuous, prevailing breezes from the Caribbean Sea. The country has an average temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity is nicely tempered by ocean breezes. During summer months, the temperature rarely exceeds 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter lows are seldom below 65 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night. On the flats, the water temperature will vary between 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 84 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Annual rainfall ranges from 50 inches in the north, to 170 inches in the south. Although the rainy season is usually between June and August and the dry season is between February and May, global weather changes are making historical predictions somewhat invalid. At the end of October, the weather does become cooler, and from November to February, it is pleasant with showers of rain. The average humidity throughout the year is 85%.

Whether you’re fishing a single day or multiple days, numerous fishing options are available in the waters that surround Ambergris Caye. Depending on weather conditions and the time of year, you can fish for bones on the inside flats of the lagoon, chase permit on deeper flats, or even fish the barrier reef for larger species.
Perhaps the most popular fishing in the waters of Ambergris is the sight-fishing for tarpon. Resident schools of tarpon (20 to 100 pounds) roam the huge flats of the area and can be enticed to take a fly at any time of year. Larger, migratory fish begin to show up in the late spring months and can be found well into the late summer months.
Unlike many typical “day trip” fishing options offered directly through hotels, resorts or larger tour groups, this fishing program is totally legitimate and professional. You will fish either one or two-to-a-boat, with great equipment, a boat set up for fly and light tackle fishing, and a great guide. If the weather is good and the conditions are right, most people choose to sight fish for bones, tarpon, and permit. If the weather is poor, you can still fish the sanctuary of mangrove lagoons and the backside of the lagoon, home to good numbers of bonefish, resident tarpon, and the occasional snook.
Boats and Equipment Required
Guides fish from 23-foot Mexican super pangas, outfitted with a poling platform, comfortable seats, and a large and spacious casting deck. It is recommended that you bring your own equipment, but in the event that tackle is needed, these guides provide the highest quality rods, reels, and lines.
