Stop number two of Yellow Dog’s summer Alaskan tour had us flying back to Anchorage, where we would meet up with Rust’s Flying Service for the float plane flight out to Riversong Lodge. Located approximately 70 air miles Northwest of Anchorage, Riversong Lodge sits at the confluence of the Yentna River and Lake Creek, a smaller tributary that has become famous for its incredible rainbow trout and salmon fishing opportunities. Recently under new ownership, we were wondering what to expect for this leg of the trip and what changes had been made from the original program. Needless to say, we couldn’t have been more impressed with the updates the new ownership has made to Riversong Lodge and the entire program in general.

After a foggy float plane flight out to the Yentna River, we were greeted by lodge manager’s Walter and Lisa Zaleski on the beautiful Riversong Lodge grounds. Out of all the lodges in Alaska, Riversong has to have one of the most stunning lodge settings and comfortably rustic accommodations of any place around! After settling in with Walter, discussing the fishing conditions, and getting a tour of the beautiful lodge and updates, it was time for the evening meal, which was one of the highlights to the trip with Riversong! The lodge takes great pride in providing a fantastic culinary experience for each and every guest, with chefs preparing meals each day consisting of local meats, fresh produce and breads, desserts and sides that will satisfy even the biggest food critics! After turning in for the night in our cabins lit by lantern light, we were excited and prepared for our next day on the famous Lake Creek fishery.

The Lake Creek fishery definitely does not disappoint, and the guides of Riversong Lodge know the water like no one else. With the use of custom built jetboats, Riversong is able to access some of the upper reaches of Lake Creek, providing a very remote, scenic and action-packed day on the water. We had great shots at not only aggressive resident rainbow trout, but also silver salmon that were still dime bright and fresh from the ocean! Lake Creek also receives all five species of Pacific Salmon throughout the summer, which provide lots of action to keep every day interesting. The backdrop of Lake Creek is a view north to Mount McKinley in Denali National Park, which is the highest peak in North America.

Yellow Dog couldn’t be more excited to have Riversong Lodge back in the Alaskan lineup, as it is the perfect option for a shorter stay, a quick add on to an existing Alaskan vacation, or even a single day trip from Anchorage. Thanks to Walter, Lisa, and the entire Riversong Lodge staff for providing us such a great experience. Give us a call to learn more about Riversong today, and begin planning your trip to this fantastic Alaskan option.
