GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN! OUR FAVORITE WAYS TO GET TO THE FISH!Fly fishing travel allows anglers to experience new fisheries and the environment that surrounds them, whether it is a vibrant urban environment or a more remote area. While the highlight of a trip may be the opportunity to cast at a tailing permit or rising trout in an incredible location; sometimes the process of reaching your destination can be just as fun. We have been fortunate to experience some unique vehicles through our travels that have added considerable character to the trip. Unique to each location, these tools for reaching angling destinations remain engrained in our memory due to their personalities. Here are a few of our favorites:
Kamchatka: Mil MI-8 Helicopter One of the most produced helicopters of all time, the MI-8 was introduced to the Soviet Military in 1967. At the time, MI-8 utilized the first purpose built turbine engines for a helicopter. Helicopter innovation in the Soviet Union was actually stimulated following a Nikita Khruschev visit to the United States during which he flew on the Presidential S-58 and was quite impressed. A luxury version of the existing MI-4 was created which eventually led to the creation of the MI-8 following several prototypes. In Kamchatka, the MI-8 now helps anglers reach remote rivers and cast large flies to fish as powerful and sturdy as the MI-8 itself.
Estancia Del Zorro: Land Rover Defender 110 An iconic image of off-road travel, the Land Rover Defender is a force to be reckoned with in any terrain. Equipped with coil springs, locking center differential, snorkel, and Warn winch, Estancia Del Zorro’s Defender will ensure you reach your destination despite any harsh conditions you may encounter.
Patagonia River Guide: Toyota Hilux While baring resemblance to the well known Tacoma, the Hilux is a completely different animal. Assembled in Zarate, Argentina with a 2.5L Diesel engine, the Hilux offers one of the most reliable and comfortable rides to the put in regardless of road conditions.
