Yellow Dog is proud to announce we've recently added two new fishing destinations in Mexico: Fin Chasers and Fly Fish Chetumal. We’re excited about both lodges for a number of reasons and can’t wait for guests to check them out. Fin Chasers Isla Blanca is located 35 minutes North of Cancun and is the gateway to the Mar Caribe Biosphere – an expansive fishery covering 50 nautical miles from Rio Manatee (north of Cancun) all the way to Cabo Catoche (the line where the Caribbean meets the Gulf of Mexico). This fishery provides year-round opportunities for juvenile tarpon, snook, permit, an occasional bonefish, and access to offshore migratory tarpon during the summer months. The fishery is an expansive system of sandy flats, mangroves, and back-country lagoons. Packages can be arranged in conjunction with the Palladium Resort located on the water north of Cancun and just minutes from the fishery – a great option for couples or families, or with the Urban Central Hotel downtown for more fishing-focused anglers.
Fly Fish Chetumal Chetumal is located on the Belize border in the northwest corner of Chetumal Bay – an extensive water body of approximately 1615 miles and encompasses the well-known and famed fisheries around Xcalak in Mexico and Ambergris Caye in Belize. The fishery around Chetumal fishery sees very light fishing pressure compared to other areas in the region. The waters north of Chetumal are incredibly diverse and have all of the Grand Slam species available offering year-round opportunities for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook. Fly Fishing Chetumal can accommodate up to four anglers and are one of the only entities specializing in guided fly fishing packages in these waters. Packages can be arranged at the beautiful Villa Marcela Calderitas Oxtankah located on the water about 20 minutes north of the city or at one of several downtown hotel locations for more budget-minded, fishing-focused anglers.
