Quick Overview

Fishing: Really Good

Fishing Window (best time to fish): 11AM - 7PM

Best Fishing Method: Dry Fly Fishing

2nd Best Method: Nymphing

Hatches: Caddis, PMD's, Little Yellow Sallies, Drakes

Conditions Great fishing conditions are expected over the next few days. Some precipitation and clouds possible. Check the wind forecast before you head out. Flows have been decreased over the last few days.

Current and Upcoming Hatches Mayfly nymphs, caddis, and little yellow sally nymphs will be available to fish sub-surface. Fish have been consistently looking up for caddis and now PMD's. You may start to see Brown drakes late into the evening.

The Caddis action has picked back up and you can find fish eating on the surface in the late morning and evening.

Little Yellow Sallies are around and fish will be looking to eat them on the warmer days.

Brown Drakes may start hatching any day now with the hot air temperatures and water temperatures at 60 degrees below the dam. This is one of the best hatches but the majority of bugs are not spotted until late in the evening just before dark.

Tactics and Tips Nymphing has been very consistent but dry fly fishing with a caddis or PMD dry fly has also been a very good way to catch fish. A Little Yellow Sally nymph trailed trailed by a caddis nymph or PMD has worked really well for the nymphing anglers. If either of these don't seem to be working a large Hares Ear is worth fishing. Set this double nymph rig to 4 or 5 feet under your indicator with a split shot about 1 foot above the first fly. Focus on fishing slower deeper areas.

Keep your eyes peeled for fish rising to PMD's, Sallies or Caddis. A 9' 5x leader with a size #16-#18 PMD parachute or Elk Hair caddis should trick rising trout. It is also well worth cruising the banks with a caddis through the summer months. Streamer fishing, swinging or stripping has been improving with smaller natural flies.
