The Trout-Mecca of the Lower 48
Located in Twin Bridges, Montana, Four Rivers Fishing Company is one of the oldest full-service fly fishing operations in the area. With five of Montana’s most famous rivers located within a 40-mile radius of Twin, this is truly the “trout Mecca” of the lower-48. Four Rivers is licensed to outfit on every watershed in the region, and on a daily basis guides the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Madison, Jefferson, and Ruby Rivers. Four Rivers claims to have one of the best guide staffs in the region, and their combined number of seasons attests to that. To complement their outfitting offerings, Four Rivers’ lodging program is extremely flexible and varied. They also offer their clients numerous dining options, including various steak houses and restaurants in and close to town (a fun alternative and complement to the typical “lodge-style” meal program). Collectively, Four Rivers offers a great fishing and lodging package with some of the best prices found anywhere in the Northern Rockies.
When fishing with Four Rivers Fishing Company, guests can stay in one of four separate units in town or have the option to stay in cabins on the Jefferson River or the Big Hole. All of the in-town units feature flat-screen TV’s with DirecTV and all have their own private bathrooms. Some units also have large living room areas and fully functioning kitchens for those who prefer to cook their own meals. The lodging units have all been recently remodeled and feature new amenities.
Food and Beverages
When fishing with Four Rivers, all meals (breakfast and dinner) will be in one of the restaurants or steakhouses found throughout the town and the immediate area. Directly across the street from the Four Rivers Fly Shop, the Old Hotel offers the best dining in the area, and many clients choose to eat there on a nightly basis. Next door to the shop, the Wagon Wheel serves up a great dinner menu and is also the go-to place for breakfast. One block from the shop is The Shack, offering pizzas, sandwiches, salads, beer, and wine.
Typical Length of Stay
Trips of any length can be accommodated, from single-day trips to multi-day itineraries. Clients can book any number of days, and guests can arrive and depart on any day of the week.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
When traveling to Montana, many people like to “see” the area and travel throughout the region. Local attractions include horseback riding, natural hot springs, visiting Yellowstone National Park, a trip to nearby Lewis and Clark Caverns, spending time in Virginia City and the Nevada City ghost town, and taking advantage of seasonal small-town rodeos in Twin Bridges, Ennis, and Dillon.
Internet / Communications
There is Wi-Fi service available in the fly shop and the in-town lodging units. There is also free Wi-Fi available at the Twin Bridges Library. With a new cell tower that was recently put in place, most cell providers now offer strong service and signal in town and throughout the surrounding area.
How To Get There
The town of Twin Bridges is located approximately 80 miles from Bozeman International Airport (BZN). Most guests who are flying to the area choose to rent a car and make the short hour and a half drive to Twin Bridges.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Guests can arrive on any day of the week. Check-in time is after 11 AM on your arrival date, and check-out time is 10 AM on your departure date.
All anglers fishing Montana will need to buy a Montana fishing license good for the duration of their fishing trip. Licenses are available upon arrival at the shop, or they can be pre-purchased online at the Montana FWP website. The only required documentation to acquire your in person at the shop license is a valid driver’s license or another form of government-issued ID.

Twin Bridges is a small ranching community surrounded by some of the finest trout water in the Rockies. This area is known by many as the epicenter of the greatest trout fishing in Montana. Four Rivers has access to roughly 300+ miles of world-class trout waters, something that allows the guides and clients to spread out and fished uncrowded and productive waters.
The location of Four Rivers is key, as the operation is located in one of Montana’s largest but least populated valleys. The immediate area is home to the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby rivers, all flowing north within a half-mile from the shop to form the Jefferson River. There is a good reason that Twin Bridges holds such a special place in the hearts of so many western fly fishermen. With the Madison River forty minutes away, the Beaverhead flowing through town, and the Big Hole a short 3-minute drive from the shop, the biggest challenge on a daily basis is deciding where to fish. Over the course of several days of guided fishing, you could end up going north one day, south the next, then east or west after that.
Boats and Equipment Required
Most fishing in this area is done using a drift boat. At certain times, the shop also utilizes two-man Scadden-style pontoon boats to access waters that are smaller, skinnier, and “off the beaten path.” Boats are typically used for both fishing and transportation, and many rivers offer great opportunities for anglers that want to get out of the boat and wade. Four Rivers is a fully-stocked, full-service fly shop, featuring many of the top brands in the industry. They are also a full dealer for Twin Bridge-based Winston Fly Rods. All flies, leaders, terminal tackle, and more can be purchased upon arrival at the shop.

Yellow Dog Customer Reviews
“This was awesome. My wife and I aren’t the types of folks who like to be catered to the moment we get out of bed. We don’t need lunchtime tablecloths and five-star dinners. And we don’t like being “lifted up” to where we feel like we’re being intentionally separated from the guides and staff. We like being immersed in the area we’re staying in, making friends with the guides, keeping a really relaxed schedule, and fishing hard. That’s Four Rivers Fishing Co. to a freaking T. We’ll definitely be back.” – Brandon H.
