Spring Creek Fishing Reports
Updated Apr 22, 26

Quick Overview

Fishing: Good

Fishing Window (best time to fish): 11AM - 4PM

Best Fishing Method: Nymphing

2nd Best Method: Dry Fly Fishing

Hatches: Midges, BWO's, Caddis

Conditions Good conditions this week on the spring creeks. Cold weather, clouds and a bit of precipitation could make for good fishing the second half of the week. The midday window continues to provide the most productive fishing. Particularly when it is cloudy.

Current and Upcoming Hatches Sow bugs, scuds, midge larvae, BWO's, and caddis will all be active and available to trout sub-surface. Midges can be found hatching around late morning into the afternoon daily. On calm, cloudy days, keep an eye out for subtle surface activity in areas where adult midges will accumulate.

Blue Winged Olive hatches have taken off and should improve over the next few weeks. When the conditions are right the dry fly fishing can be really good. Baetis nymphs will be effective through the spring BWO hatch.

Some caddis have been flying around and can get fish up in the afternoons and evenings.

Tactics and Tips Nymphing has been consistent but the dry fly action is picking up. BWO's have started hatching in numbers. A scud or a sowbug trailed by a midge nymph has worked really well. All flies with light beads or unweighted for the most part. Set this double nymph rig to 3 - 5 feet under your indicator depending on the water you are fishing. Keep your eyes peeled for fish rising to adult midges, BWO's or caddis. A 12' 5x leader with a size #20. Griffith's Gnat, BWO Last Chance Cripple or Corn-fed Caddis and a drag free drift should trick rising trout. Sometimes a #20-#22 Smokejumper or Mole Fly is required to trick picky fish that are rising to emerging midges or baetis.
