2nd Best Method: Dry with Dropper

Hatches: Caddis, PMD's, Salmonflies, Little Yellow Sallies

Conditions Warm weather early this week followed by several days of cool and rain. The river has been dropping slightly. Fishing has been pretty good with streamers and large nymphs. Dry fly action has picked up again later in the day. The afternoon has provided the most productive fishing.

Current and Upcoming Hatches Bug life has been excellent with salmonflies and goldenstones hatching in numbers. Stonefly nymphs, mayfly nymphs, and caddis are available to fish sub-surface. PMD's and Sallies can be found hatching around late morning into the afternoon daily. On calm, cloudy days, fish have been consistently rising to adult Caddis or PMD's in tailouts or small eddies. The dry fly action is usually best around $3 Bridge.

Caddis took a back seat while trout are focusing on the big bug, with most action in the late afternoon and evening.

Little Yellow Sallies and Salmonflies are still out and about and will be for the next few days. Fishing a large orange Chubby Chernobyl with a caddis trailer has been quite productive.

Tactics and Tips Dry fly fishing has been good daily with nice fish looking to eat caddis in the evenings and the big bugs throughout the day. A 9' 5x leader with a size #16 PMD dry fly or a size #16 Caddis dry and a drag free drift should trick rising trout. If you are cruising a salmonfly or goldenstone imitation a 1x or 2x 7.5' leader is the best way to really smack that dry on the water. A mayfly nymph fished with a perdigon or a Salmonfly nymph has been quite successful subsurface. A salmonfly dry with a stonefly nymph dropper will still be effective on the upper portions of the river. Streamer fishing has just been OK. Smaller flies have found the most success.
