Description

Scott Wave

9' 4-piece 9 weight fly rod

A feeling of near weightlessness in hand. Authoritatively powerful. Undoubtedly in control. Plain fun to fish.

Wave rods bring together high line speed, exceptional loop control, and point-it-and-it goes-there accuracy. They feel light and lively in hand and respond intuitively to input from the angler.
Wave rods easily handle a wide range of line densities and fly sizes, making them ideal tools for pursuing powerful fish in all fresh and saltwater environments. And when that pursuit turns into a hook up, Wave rods have lifting power to spare, helping keep fish out of structure or the depths.
Equally at home slam fishing the flats, casting fast sinking lines for stripers, or chasing carp and bass at the local park, Wave rods deliver high performance across a wide variety of fishing situations.

Technology

ReAct - ReAct technology combines our X-Core design with a new complex materials and taper system to create a break-through in fast action rod design. Distance, control and accuracy are compromised by waves that vibrate in the rod, even after the cast has been made. Simply making the rod stiffer to stop these vibrations kills feel. ReAct counteracts energy sapping vibrations by speeding the recovery of the blank without the need to stiffen the rod with more material. This puts the feel in fast. And that’s a really good thing.

FiberFuse - Our all new FiberFuse enhanced resin system uses new chemistry to create bonds between each graphite fiber that are over 20% stronger than conventional epoxy resins.

X-Core -X-Core combines the industry’s leading composite technologies with cutting edge design. We use fast taper mandrels with low-mass, thin-walled blanks and proprietary ARC reinforcement to create rods that have stiffness with feel, and stability with sensitivity.

Multi Modulus Blanks -By varying the fiber tensile modulus along the length of the rod, we’re able to precisely control the stiffness and recovery speed of our blanks.

ARC- Scott is the leader in carbon blank reinforcements. Our latest ARC technology adds hoop strength to our blanks without adding weight and counteracts torque that can reduce casting accuracy and line control.

Warranty

SCOTT GRAPHITE AND FIBERGLASS ROD ORIGINAL OWNER WARRANTY

We design rods for high performance and build them to last a lifetime.  Sometimes things don't go as planned and you break a rod (sometimes even we mess up).  It's for these occasions that we warranty our fly rods and have a dedicated repair department of rod craftsmen.

The Scott Lifetime Warranty applies only to the original owner of new graphite and fiberglass rods, purchased from an authorized Scott dealer, that are registered within 30 days of purchase.

Unregistered or resold rods are not covered by this warranty. Rods purchased from third party sites such as Ebay or Amazon are not covered by the warranty.

The warranty does not cover loss or theft, loss or damage caused by transportation such as airlines, UPS, FedEx, US Mail, intentional damage, or damage from neglect. Scott guarantees every registered fly rod and blank we craft with a serial number greater than 35,000 (made after ~ 1994). Thread colors may vary from those on the original rod. Discontinued cosmetic options and components may be replaced with their most comparable equivalent.

Caster Note:
  • This rod is easy to work with. I like the hardware on it – not too much weight. Good recovery. Reminds me a lot of the Orvis Recon. In my opinion, this is an above average rod and holds up from short to long targets. A workhorse.
  • A little clunk in very short, but dampens with 15’ of line in the air. Not too stiff at 50’; bends ⅔ of the way down at medium target. Way more flex than the 11-weight for sure.
  • The lightest of all reel seats and you can feel it in the rod. The rod loads really well at 30’ (short) target. A little slower, can’t force it too much out at 40’-50’ (medium). I felt if I held lower on the cork, I get more performance out of the rod going out to the 70’ target (long). Sector feels better in the 9-Weight.
Yellow Dog Final Takeaway

The Scott Wave 9wt is an easy rod to work with and has the feel of a dependable workhorse. The hardware is well balanced and relatively light, particularly the reel seat, which contributes to the rod’s comfortable feel in hand. It offers good recovery and a smooth casting stroke that holds up well across a range of distances.

At very short range there is a slight clunkiness, but once about 15 feet of line is in the air the rod settles down and begins to perform much more smoothly. Around 30 feet it loads well and provides a controlled casting feel. By the time you reach the 40 to 50 foot range the rod bends well into the blank, offering more flex than expected and producing consistent casts without feeling overly stiff.

As casts extend further, the rod continues to perform but responds best to a smoother casting rhythm rather than being forced. Holding slightly lower on the cork helps unlock more performance when pushing casts toward 70 feet. The rod maintains solid consistency from short through long targets and offers dependable performance across the entire course.
