Trip Overview
The Berry Islands have always been known for barefoot wading over pure white sand flats and larger-than-average bonefish for The Bahamas. The problem was there were few fly guides and no lodges. We are excited about this new beachfront operation, an all-inclusive-style lodge that can accommodate up to eight guests. Since the condensed group of islands that make up the Berry Islands and Chub Key is surrounded by deep water, trophy bonefish and large permit are the main targets for the guides and anglers. This is the only fishing operation on the island. 

Lodging Details
Previously known as the Carriearl Roost, the Soul Fly Lodge was recently renovated in 2020. Four double occupancy rooms all feature large private bathrooms, air conditioning, and plenty of space for your gear. The main lodge space has two sitting areas, a fly-tying station, a large dining room that is open to the public on weekends, and an all-inclusive, well-stocked “help yourself” bar. Steps from the bar is a pool with a wraparound deck, giving way to a path down to the white sand beach ideal for swimming. 

Food and Beverages
Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining area and a cooler lunch is provided for your days on the flats. At Soul Fly Lodge, you can expect well-prepared dinners consisting mainly of fresh local seafood. The lodge chef focuses on healthy and nutritious meals, so salads and lean meats are typically available. Here at Yellow Dog, we can accommodate specific food requests with advance notice.  

Typical Length of Stay
Trips of any length can be arranged. There are no specific transfer days so you can arrive and depart on any day of the week and stay for any number of days. The lodge closes from mid-June through early October. 

Non-Angling Activities and Options
Soul Fly is a fishing-focused destination since it only accommodates eight anglers. The lodge pool and beach do allow anglers to enjoy The Bahamas sun, sea, and sand. Just keep in mind that the lodge does not offer non-angling rates during peak season. 

Internet / Communications
The lodge offers complimentary Wi-Fi. Cell phone service is available depending on individual plans.

How To Get There
Most guests fly to the Nassau International Airport (NAS) and then take a short flight to Great Harbour Cay Airport (GHC). Makers Air is also an option that offers direct flights between Fort Lauderdale and Great Harbour Cay, but they must first stop in Andros to clear Bahamas Customs and Immigrations, since the Berry Islands do not have customs. For groups of more than six people, we would be happy to arrange a charter flight direct from Fort Lauderdale, but again you must clear customs on North Andros, which is only a short 20-minute flight from Great Harbour Cay. 

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Since Soul Fly has no set changeover days or a required length of stay, guests can arrive and depart on any day of the week, at any time.

Documents Required
All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six (6) months of trip dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in the back, and that it is not torn, delaminated or damaged in any way. No visas or inoculations are required for U.S. citizens.

Minors Traveling Without Both Parents
All children 18 years of age or younger accompanied by only one parent or legal guardian must have a NOTARIZED letter of consent from the other parent stating the child/children have his/her permission to travel. Single parents need NOTARIZED documentation of divorce or a spousal death certificate. Unaccompanied Minors require a NOTARIZED letter of consent signed by both parents.

General Information
This isolated fishery consists of a chain of roughly 30 small islands or cays that make a backward “C”, which is bordered by the Tongue of the Ocean. This deep ocean trench ensures the water on the flats remains clear during any weather conditions. It also creates optimal habitat for schooling bonefish, larger bones in singles and doubles, as well as one of the more consistent fisheries in The Bahamas for large permit. The hard white sand is ideal for wade-fishing in shallow flats. The guides can pole anglers in the deeper water as well, but this destination is well-known for wading. Since there is little landmass, the majority of the flats are exposed, so practice your casting in the wind! A condensed inland lagoon allows for fishing on the leeward side on super windy days. It is important to fish the tides for a wide range of species. Around high tide, fishing for barracuda, mutton snapper, triggerfish, and permit will be more productive than bonefish.

Boats and Equipment
All the guides run 2021 Lodge Edition, Maverick 17-foot HPX-V & S boats with 70 HP Yamaha engines. Each boat features rod storage, padded bench seats, dry storage, life vests, a poling platform, lean bars, and a GPS locator.

We highly recommend trip and travel “Cancel for Any Reason” insurance which you must specifically select. Medical extraction and “Cancel for Any Reason” Travel insurance can be provided by Global Rescue.  Please note: with Global Rescue, in order to get the “Cancel for Any Reason” coverage you must purchase the policy within 20 days of the initial trip deposit. If costs are added along the way, additional costs must be insured within 20 days of being added. All non-refundable trip costs must be insured. This is not offered to New York State residents.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS – CANCELLATIONS
Date changes can be made 61+ days prior to arrival at Soul Fly Lodge (subject to availability). Date changes cannot be made to reservations 60 days or less prior to the arrival date. Soul Fly Lodge reserves the right to charge a handling fee of $100 per person for any changes to the reservation. Cancellations 90 days prior to the start of the trip: A 10% penalty would be incurred. The remaining 90% can be refunded or applied to a future trip booked within one year. Cancellations 61-90 days prior to the start of the trip: A 50% penalty would be incurred. The remaining 50% can be refunded or applied to a future trip booked within one year. Cancellations 60 days or less prior to the start of the trip: No refund or credit will be given. Cancellations due to COVID-19: Should a trip be canceled for COVID-19 reasons you should rely on your trip insurance and/or your “Cancel for Any Reason” trip insurance policy.

Payment Terms for All Yellow Dog Trip Bookings  
Unless otherwise noted on your invoice, for all trips less than 90 days out, full payment is required after receipt of the confirmation email to secure guides and reservations. For trips outside of 90 days, a 50% deposit is required upon receipt of confirmation email to confirm your reservations.
