Description

Named after the Cimarron River just outside our home in Colorado, the Cimarron reel carries the spirit of the West—rugged, wild, and untamed.

Originally introduced in the 1980s, the Cimarron quickly became a cornerstone of the Ross lineup. This modern version honors that legacy with updated engineering and durability for today’s anglers.

Designed as the perfect entry point into the Ross family, the Cimarron features a drag system based on our trusted Animas reel, a fully anodized frame and spool, and a premium Cerakote drag knob for easy, precise adjustments and added resistance to drops and dings.

FAQ

Who Is the Ross Cimarron Creek For?
The Cimarron Creek is built for trout anglers who appreciate the simplicity and feel of a click-and-pawl reel. It's an excellent choice for small streams, spring creeks, dry fly fishing, and anyone who enjoys hearing a classic reel sing during a good trout run. It also pairs beautifully with fiberglass, bamboo, and lighter graphite rods.

What Makes the Cimarron Creek Different from Other Click-and-Pawl Reels?
The standout feature is its interchangeable dual-pawl system. Every reel includes multiple pawls that can be mixed and matched to create up to ten different combinations of click volume and resistance. It's a level of customization rarely found on click-and-pawl reels and lets anglers tailor the reel to their own preferences.

What Are the Downsides of the Ross Cimarron Creek?
Like any click-and-pawl reel, the Cimarron Creek isn't intended for large, hard-running fish or situations where a powerful drag is necessary. Trout anglers who regularly fish heavy streamers, indicator rigs, or larger species may prefer the Ross Animas or Evolution R.

It's also a bit heavier than some ultralight click-and-pawl reels. That added weight contributes to its solid feel and durability, but anglers seeking the lightest possible setup may notice the difference.

Finally, while it's one of the most affordable USA-made machined reels available, it still costs more than many imported click-and-pawl options. The value comes from its machining quality, American manufacturing, and thoughtful engineering rather than simply being an inexpensive trout reel.
