Description
G.Loomis NRX+ LP 590
9' 5 weight, four-piece fly rod
The NRX+ LP 590 is lighter and more powerful than the typical presentation-oriented fly rod. Although it's right at home in any trout fishing scenario, this rod really stands out in technical dry fly situations where accuracy, tippet protection, and line-handling finesse matter most.
Dedicated dry fly anglers know the deal. Your job? Flawless presentation. The trout’s job? Avoiding introduction.
Picky and particular, feeding trout aren’t often available to receive offerings sent in a straight-line path. Perfect, delicate drifts require slinging unconventional slack-yielding casts, and drag-inducing micro-currents, obstacles, and other naturally occurring variables can limit tactical opportunity. When success rests on a razor’s edge, take control with balanced fishing tools built to boost effectiveness in ultra-technical scenarios.
NRX+ LP is the ultimate tool for accurate and effective dry fly presentation. Tailored for supreme versatility over a wide range of casting techniques, actions are sweet, smooth, and stable, with plenty of “spank” when conditions call for an additional pinch of power.
Technology
Dynamic Recovery Technology is a blended system of several elements. Our all-new Mega Modulus+ graphite matrix and GL8 resin system, combined with the industry’s most advanced compound taper construction process, creates crisp actions with smooth, rapid recovery. The key to achieving these performance characteristics is a reimaging of our proprietary Multi-Taper Design technology. Traditionally used to enhance durability and swing weight, the G. Loomis design team developed a method of applying a similar process to improve loading efficiency and feedback. This widens the power and recovery “sweet spot”, providing performance with feel regardless of casting distance.
- Mega Modulus+ matrix is 15% lighter than original NRX, improving overall balance and feel, and limits casting fatigue
- Smooth, rapid recovery, allowing casters to develop stable loops with less effort
- GL8 resin possesses the same strength and impact resistance as past resin systems with less material. This reduces overall weight, and ultimately, limits fatigue
- Materials dampen quickly, delivering a crisp, positive feel in hand

10' 5x leader with Yard Indicator
- 3” tip too soft and not helping with overall bend
- This rod is nice out to 40’-50’. Very capable of longer casts. This rod did not excel in this category.
- The grip is OK. Stiff, but pretty smooth and easy to be accurate. Easy to cast in the wind. Tippy at 50’.
The G. Loomis NRX+ LP 5-weight offers solid performance at mid to longer distances, particularly between 40’–50’, with easy accuracy and decent wind-handling. While generally smooth and capable, the overly soft 3” tip doesn’t contribute meaningfully to the rod’s overall bend, leaving it feeling slightly unbalanced. The action is tippy at distance, and while the rod is easy to cast, it didn’t stand out in the dry fly category. A serviceable option for those seeking a lighter presentation rod with some range—but it may leave more advanced casters wanting a bit more connection and refinement.
