Description

Hardy Marksman Z Fly Rod 9011-4

The 11-Weight Marksman Z is going to be your go-to migratory tarpon rod. Plenty of lifting power for line-hauling to a pack of cruising fish, and enough strength at the butt to put the power on the fish. Additionally, an excellent option for all species of trevally when traveling to Indo-Pacific waters.

There are few environments that can offer the challenge of the salt. Smooth early morning runs through thick air across nervous liquid silver flats can quickly yield to cast killing winds and seemingly impossible shots from an unstable casting platform. However when the wind drops, the stars align and you slide that fly into the bulls eye there is no match for the feeling of expectation turning instantly into adrenaline as a hundred pounds of chrome goes airborne or six pounds of silver leaves the flat like its been fired from a gun.

The Hardy Marksman Z with its unrivaled blend of feel, power, recovery and down right durability has been designed in conjunction with some of the finest guides, anglers and legends in the saltwater world. From Gold Cups to grand slams and a thousand different challenges in between, the Hardy Marksman Z is the right rod for that right moment in the Salt.

Features

Strength & Durability
The new Sintrix FLT combines next generation high modulus fiber with our advanced Sintrix resin system. Our well proven design and manufacturing techniques provide the platform to fully exploit this material combing new tapers, new material geometry, and critical real world “on the water” feedback from world renowned guides, tournament anglers and trophy fish chasers. The end result is a further refinement on our legendary Zane Pro with yet more strength and lifting power in the butt section for fighting fish, and more reserve power for long casts and for picking large amounts of line to re-cast so that you can make the most of those 2nd chances.

Action & Accuracy
The Marksman Z features a highly responsive mid-section that lets you dig deep for those longer casts into or across the wind. That mid-section blends with a super accurate, easy loading, high recovering tip section that simultaneously allows quick loading for those sudden short shots while also being perfectly suited to deliver precise, accurate casts at a distance - all seamlessly combined into a brutally strong yet surgically refined weapon.

Purposeful Guide Selection
We have reconfigured our guides to maximize performance and match the strength and durability of the Marksman Z blanks. They start with a large diameter Ceracoil stripper guide which kills line noise and provides a super slick durable first contact between the fly line and the rod- helping reduce “dry line stick”. The guide set quickly transitions into damage resistant titanium recoil strippers, and then large diameter double leg titanium snake guides to optimize line flow during the cast and quickly clear any bulky rigging or shock leader connections during the final critical seconds of the battle.

All New Reel Seat Design
Our Hardy engineers have created an all-new reel seat packed with features and perfectly suited to hold large diameter, large arbor fly reels without worry. It starts with fully anodized aluminum throughout. The captivated slide band gives a fast, secure connection between rod and reel without having to search for alignment. The engraved line weight on the slide band makes rod identification quick and easy. The raised profile double locking rings give incredible grip and allow you to really tighten down large arbor saltwater reels. And the clean, practical industrial design perfectly accentuates our latest generation of ultra large arbor saltwater reels.

Caster Note:
  • This rod is like G. Loomis’s cork, but flipped. I really like it! This rod is noticeably light in hand and loads well and you can feel it through the tip. Picks up line very easily and the fly goes to where the rod tip points. Both the medium and long casts feel exactly the same!
  • Compact, perfect-sized grip. Nice sized fighting butt. At the medium target, the rod flexes down into the middle with a very strong butt section. Precise!
  • Nice sized fighting butt and very forgiving with the softer tip. Similar to the Scott Wave – what I put into this rod is what I get out. It recovers well where I make mistakes. It also changes directions without getting curve.
Yellow Dog Final Takeaway

Finishing strong in the Top 5, the Marksman Z stands out for its balance, feel, and consistency. It is noticeably light in hand, loads smoothly through the tip, and picks up line with ease. Medium and long casts feel remarkably similar, creating a predictable, confidence building casting experience.

The grip and fighting butt are well proportioned, and the rod flexes deep at medium distance while maintaining a powerful butt section. A slightly softer tip makes it forgiving without feeling vague, allowing it to recover cleanly from minor mistakes and change direction without introducing curve. This is a precise, intuitive rod that gives back exactly what the caster puts into it.
