Description
The Battenkill disc fly reel, a proven legend of the Orvis reel family, is now ushered into the next decade. We didn’t touch the reliability and workhorse nature—those aspects are not for negotiation. Instead, the team worked to tighten tolerances for even smoother operation and updated key facets of the design like improved hand feel on the drag knob, a curved reelfoot that won’t kink leaders, and new, understated colors that complement the aesthetic of Superfine, Classic Bamboo, or even freshwater Helios® and Recon® rods. Includes the stout Hydros SL drag system, which incorporates six interacting carbon and stainless drag surfaces. Positive click drag is simple and easy to adjust. Each reel is built of 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum with an ergonomic Delrin handle, and changing from left to right hand retrieve is simple. Mid-arbor with a ported design that pays homage to Battenkill reels of old. A true modern classic. Imported.

FAQ
Who Is the Orvis Battenkill Disc For?
The Battenkill Disc is for anglers who want a dependable, no-nonsense freshwater reel without spending a fortune. It offers a classic look and feel, but beneath that traditional styling is a surprisingly capable drag system borrowed from the Hydros platform.
Is the Battenkill Disc a Good Trout Reel?
Definitely. The Battenkill Disc has become one of the easiest trout reels to recommend because it balances performance, simplicity, and value. It pairs particularly well with rods like the Recon, Clearwater, Superfine, and bamboo rods, offering enough drag for large trout while maintaining the classic appearance many anglers appreciate.
How Good Is the Battenkill Disc Drag?
Much better than many people expect. The Battenkill Disc utilizes the Hydros SL drag system, which features six interacting carbon and stainless-steel drag surfaces. The result is a smooth, reliable drag with plenty of stopping power for trout and enough performance for larger freshwater species. While it isn't as refined as the Mirage LT or Hydros, it's one of the stronger drag systems you'll find in this price category.
What Are the Downsides of the Orvis Battenkill Disc?
It uses a mid-arbor design, so line retrieval is slower than many modern large-arbor reels. The drag is reliable, but it is not sealed! This can be a deal breaker for some customers, but it is typically OK for routine trout fishing. For anyone seeking a no-nonsense reel at a good price point for everyday freshwater use, it is a great option.
