Scott Centric 905
9' 5 weight, four piece fly rod
Cutting edge Centric series fly rods deliver new levels of stability, recovery speed, and range, while giving anglers tons of feedback through the easy flexing tip sections and highly transmissive blanks.
Centric rods combine new tapers and multi-modulus lay ups with a new resin system to increase fiber density and reduce weight, and they feature our new generation ARC reinforcement for greater stability along multiple axes. New custom rolling equipment allows us to control fiber placement and density with new levels of precision.
Scott Centric rods are fit with Flor grade cork, new titanium stripping guides with super slick zirconia inserts, new low glare Snakebrand Universal snake guides, and a new fully milled reel seat featuring speed threads, easy grip knurling, self-indexing hoods, micarta inserts, a special Delrin lock washer, and type 3 flat black hard coat.
Centric rods are handcrafted in the USA from the finest materials.
Technology
Carbon Link -Centric rods combine new precision construction techniques with our innovative new resin system to bond carbon fibers in a very dense matrix. The result is an exponentially lighter, more efficient rod that reduces casting fatigue and effort, while improving accuracy and versatility performance.
ReAct - ReAct technology combines our X-Core design with a new complex materials and taper system to create a break-through in fast action rod design. Distance, control and accuracy are compromised by waves that vibrate in the rod, even after the cast has been made. Simply making the rod stiffer to stop these vibrations kills feel. ReAct counteracts energy sapping vibrations by speeding the recovery of the blank without the need to stiffen the rod with more material. This puts the feel in fast. And that’s a really good thing.
FiberFuse - Our all new FiberFuse enhanced resin system uses new chemistry to create bonds between each graphite fiber that are over 20% stronger than conventional epoxy resins.
X-Core -X-Core combines the industry’s leading composite technologies with cutting edge design. We use fast taper mandrels with low-mass, thin-walled blanks and proprietary ARC reinforcement to create rods that have stiffness with feel, and stability with sensitivity.
Multi Modulus Blanks -By varying the fiber tensile modulus along the length of the rod, we’re able to precisely control the stiffness and recovery speed of our blanks.
ARC 2- Our Advanced Reinforced Carbon (ARC) adds directional stability and hoop strength while minimizing additional weight.
Warranty
SCOTT GRAPHITE AND FIBERGLASS ROD ORIGINAL OWNER WARRANTY
We design rods for high performance and build them to last a lifetime. Sometimes things don't go as planned and you break a rod (sometimes even we mess up). It's for these occasions that we warranty our fly rods and have a dedicated repair department of rod craftsmen.
The Scott Lifetime Warranty applies only to the original owner of new graphite and fiberglass rods, purchased from an authorized Scott dealer, that are registered within 30 days of purchase.
Unregistered or resold rods are not covered by this warranty. Rods purchased from third party sites such as Ebay or Amazon are not covered by the warranty.
The warranty does not cover loss or theft, loss or damage caused by transportation such as airlines, UPS, FedEx, US Mail, intentional damage, or damage from neglect. Scott guarantees every registered fly rod and blank we craft with a serial number greater than 35,000 (made after ~ 1994). Thread colors may vary from those on the original rod. Discontinued cosmetic options and components may be replaced with their most comparable equivalent.
As of September 2020, the cost to warranty and service a Scott Fly Rod is $50 plus shipping.

- This is a fast rod and I experienced some arm fatigue. There is little bend, so hard for heavy files and a struggle for me to hit targets. A little hard to time casting stroke. I felt as if I really needed to speed up my casting stroke. It’s a fast rod, and good for someone who likes casting streamers with fast action.
- Smooth and controlled at all distances. Overall, above average for me. Light in hand, fast. Since it is fast, it doesn’t load and bend as much as I care for, but handles weight fine.
- The rod is stiff especially in close. Cast really just with the tip. Better in wind with a faster stroke. Smooth enough, but poor communication, so hard to control.

- Great rod and very smooth at all distances. Loads well and handles wind with increased power as well as gentle strokes. Easy to be accurate. A pleasure to cast.
- The grip is a good length. It is a stiff and tippy rod, but relatively smooth.

- Not sure how I like how it picks up off the water and especially in faster water. The tip lags. It is a lot of work to roll cast at 40’.
- Very smooth. Effortless overhead at 40’. Played well in close and at distance. Fluid across the rod and could handle more distance if you needed it to.
- I would like more feel and feedback from the rod and more tip feel at longer distances.
The Scott Centric 5-weight is a high-performance, fast-action rod that delivers smooth, controlled casting with excellent accuracy and power—especially in wind and at longer distances. It excels on the nymph course, offering a pleasant, fluid stroke and balanced feel across a wide range. However, the rod is notably stiff and tippy, with limited bend and feel in close, which can make timing and communication challenging, particularly with streamers or on roll casts. While it handles weight well and feels light in hand, the Centric favors experienced casters who prefer speed and precision over softness and feedback.
What can I say -- this is the perfect rod for me. I have always been a big fan of Scott, and was and still am a big fan of the Radian. The 905 Centric is lighter, crisper, and more responsive than the Radian, and similar to the Radian, a missile launcher when you want it to be. Perhaps its best trait is the exceptional control and ability to form tight loops at distance with practically no effort or false casts, with razor-thin line tracking. Its not going to suddenly make you a more precise caster, but if you are capable one, the Centric 905 is putting it exactly where you told it to. Finally, the recovery is immediate: The Centric bends deep, quickly generates line speed, and recovers to a stationary position in microseconds. Keep in mind: It is not fast to a fault, and its ability to bend deep makes roll casting and stack mending nymph setups or a dry-dropper setup effortless. However, should you want to, it is capable of a quick water load and launch on the next cast. This rod is 6 stars out of 5 for me, and will be my go-to for any nymphing application, general dry fly fishing, hoppers, and small streamers for years to come.
