FAQ
Who is the Loggerhead Extended 37" built for?
The Sea Run Loggerhead Extended 37" is designed for traveling anglers who need additional length to accommodate rods that won't fit in a standard 34" case. It can accommodate 10'6" and 11' rods, four-piece rods up to 11'6", and select three-piece and bamboo rods. It's particularly useful for anglers traveling with longer trout, switch, or specialty rods who want the same level of protection and organization as the standard Loggerhead. Its rigid construction also provides peace of mind when checking valuable equipment with an airline.
How does the Extended 37" compare to the Loggerhead Compact 34"?
The two share the same design: patent-pending 3D hard-shell, waterproof and airtight build, YKK AQUASEAL zipper, six movable dividers, TSA lock, backpack and shoulder straps, and a limited lifetime warranty. The differences come down to length and rod capacity. The Extended 37" measures 37 x 9.5 x 5.25" outside and holds five 4-piece rods up to 11'6", so it is the one to choose for longer rods. The Compact 34" measures 34 x 9.5 x 5" outside and holds five to six 4-piece rods up to 10'. The Compact is the one that fits overhead storage, carries an IPX7 rating, and is IATA air travel certified, and it holds six to seven reels versus six on the Extended. Both cases weigh about 9 lbs empty, so ask us for exact figures if your airline's weight limits are tight. Short version: pick the Extended if you carry 10'6" to 11'6" rods; pick the Compact if your rods are 10' or under and carry-on matters.
How waterproof is it?
The Compact is crushproof with IPX7 waterproof and airtight construction, sealed by a YKK AQUASEAL zipper. IPX7 covers temporary immersion, so it handles rain, spray, and a dunk off a dock quite easily. It is also noteworthy that the Loggerhead naturally floats, though this will also depend on the weight of its contents.
Will it fit in overhead storage or count as a carry-on?
At 37 inches long, the Extended is not a carry-on case, and the overhead-storage fit and IATA certification belong to the Compact. Plan on checking it, or confirm your airline's carry-on length limits first. If carry-on matters most, the Compact 34" is the better choice.
